Role Summary
As Head of Quality, you will work as an integral member of the business assurance team. Working collaboratively with senior leaders, key internal and external stakeholders, you will proactively be identifying, planning, and meeting the relevant elements of governance, risk and assurance needs of the business to drive improvement and business performance


Working with a team of functional heads, regional compliance managers to ensure effective coverage of assurance and audit across the business units in geographical areas of operation and provide management system support in ensuring an effective way of business operation.

Overview of the role requires effective implementation of planning and delivering the business risk-based audit programme.

Maintain business accreditation of ISO9001, 14001, 45001, 27001 certifications.


What you will be doing

  • Managing a team of business Compliance Managers, setting functional and team objectives in line with business strategy and team delivery
  • Supporting the Business Assurance Director and the business in delivering strategy, planning, coordination and embedding effective governance, policies, guidelines and procedures to ensure that objectives and targets are being achieved to drive high performance
  • Working with digital team and business on the effective implementation and development of the management systems and platforms
  • Endure effective business records archiving system/management is established and maintained
  • Develop and maintain riskbased audit schedule to include function, business units and supply chain in geographical area of operation.
  • Plan and lead in the conduct of regular internal audits, deep dives, investigation of business risk management, compliance to policies, processes, procedures and supply chain to maintain right firsttime business value and performance.
  • Review and strengthen audit methodology, approach and reporting requirements and structure
  • Effective management of audit close out and reporting and identification of good practice and recommendations
  • Support in the delivery and management of business risk and reporting
  • Develop quality and assurance performance metrics to deliver timely business reports to include management system compliance, trends, risk and recommendations for continuous improvement
  • Maintain ISO9001 & national highways sector scheme for traffic management 12A/12B/12C/12D/8, 14001, 45001, 27001 Certifications as well as awareness for 44001 for future consideration
  • Have a good handle on certification body ways of working, certification requirements and management of accounts
  • Bring industry best practice and knowledge to maximise the role and support the business to strengthen its MSs, assurance, risk and audits to incl. three lines of defence model (3LoD)
  • Development and provide both formal and informal quality management and assurance training to all levels of the organisation/workforce to incl induction training
  • Budgetary planning to ensure appropriate resource levels, IT needs, certification accounts management.
  • Provide expert guidance and advise to the business on legal, regulatory, contractual, quality management, assurance, audit, risk, supply chain, and quality control requirements
  • Provide insight on improvement, and to promote a positive compliance culture assuring the maintenance of high ethical and quality standards across the business.
  • Provide briefing, coaching and mentoring on the implementation of company arrangements with respect to Governance, management systems, risk and assurance
  • Liaise with client/customer representatives to foster a good relationship
  • Attends internal and external business meetings as required, representing the company in a professional manner at all times
  • Analyse assurance output and business performance, risk detection, root cause analysis (RCA) and lead with recommendation and business improvement initiatives

What we will need from you

  • Likely to have experience and exposure to risk management and compliance in a construction or allied business such as infrastructure or utilities, highways, education, health.
  • Awareness and understanding of external standards and best practices in business ethics and compliance.
  • Will have played a significant role in planning and conducting risk based internal audit processes and complex investigations.
  • Awareness of external accreditation regimes and audit requirements and understanding of how to manage and maintain these standards and improve the processes.
