    An exciting opportunity has arisen to support in Clinical and Quality Governance in the Medicine Care Group at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, on a full time 37.5 hours per week on an initial fixed term contract of 6 Months.

    The Quality and Governance Matron, using their knowledge of clinical and quality governance and experience, will support the Associate Director of Nursing & Care Group Triumvirate, to ensure the efficient and effective and co-ordinated governance of quality, patient safety, risk and incident management.

    They will work closely with the Associate Director of Nursing, as well as other key stakeholders to ensure measurable improvement within the Medicine Care Group and the Trust, and to ensure the Medicine Care Group meets statutory, regulatory and NHS requirements for safe and effective patient care.

    The Care Group Quality and Governance Matron will be working for an incredibly vibrant and fast paced Care Group within CDDFT.

    They will be working across 3 sites within CDDFT and will be required to provide and receive complex, sensitive and potentially contentious information in the area of clinical governance.

    The post-holder will be able to persuade, motivate and train all key stakeholders and provide direct support in meeting and achieving expectations of the Board in respsone to complaints, CQC enquires, PHSO enquires and support clinical teams produce reports in relation to patient safety issues and consideration for Coroners requests.

    Key lines of communication will be with the Associate Director of Nursing for the Medicine Care Group, the Senior Triumverate, General Managers, Matrons and Ward Managers.

    He/ she will also provide direct line mangement and support to the Care Group Governance team in their role in facilitating and providing administrative support to this role
    We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham.

    We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

    Challenge the status quo and lead on the development of the Governance structures within the Medicine Care Group

    Establish excellent working relationships with clinicians at all levels within the Care Group and across organisations to enable transformation and delivery on all areas of performance.

    Lead on the delivery of all aspects of performance including quality of services, patient experience, access, finance, governance, HR and organisational development.

    This extends beyond your direct area of influence to include leadership across other associated services and Care Groups.

    Lead on and be proactive in ensuring that the delivery of compliance with national requirements in relation to nursing quality measures and standards.

    To support and develop new ways of working to continually improve the quality of the service.
    Facilitate the provision of an environment conducive to the learning needs of all staff including students.

    Participate in staff appraisals, formulation of Personal Development Plans and succession planning for all staff whom direct line management is assigned too.

    Long term sickness, recruitment and retention, investigations potentially leading to disciplinary action.
    Observe the rules and The Code as laid down by the NMC / HCPC.

    To develop a key role in effective team working and building by maintaining effective communication and working relationships with other professional groups and external agencies.

    Ensure your practice, attitude and behaviour, and that of the staff, is in keeping within the maternity philosophy of care and trust values and behaviours framework.

    To participate in the on-call weekend / Bank holiday Matron for the site roster (nursing only)
    Able to travel across Trust sites to meet the requirements of the post

    Educated to degree level in Health Related Subject
    Experience of clinical governance & quality issues in health care

    Working Knowledge of patient safety, clinical audit, patient experience, risk register processes
    Significant post registration experience in an acute hospital setting. Band 7 or above or equitable experience
    Experience of clinical audit/ research and development processes and practice
    Experience of quality and governance development and processes.

    Relevant experience of the health service within a clinical governance/quality related discipline
    Working in an appropriate manner with patient sensitive data

    Understanding of National Health Service improvement methodologies including: Working with risk management processes including, patient safety, risk registers, CAS / NICE Guidance.

    Management of complex data streams and ability to analyse data

    Computer literate - ability to use Word/Excel/PowerPoint
    Knowledge of medical terminology
    Knowledge and impact of the key national and local drives in relation to governance
    Able to demonstrate an understanding of health policy and its impact on the professional nursing agenda and CDDFT
