This is a unique opportunity to combine working as a core/community midwife with a specialism in Antenatal Education.


We currently have opportunities for experienced band 6 midwives to join the core/community midwifery teams and spend 2 days per rota (if you are working 37 1⁄2 hours/week) working in Antenatal Education.


You will work closely with the MVP as well as the Consultant Midwives and Midwifery Matrons, Specialist Midwives, Clinical Practice Facilitators and Practice Development Midwives (Education Team) to improve communication and information sharing with women.


This will prepare you for a specialist role in:

  • Antenatal education

You will learn how, amongst other duties to:
Co-ordinate antenatal education for the trust, whilst participating and learning as you go.


Be part of the Specialist team, where you will teach virtual / face to face antenatal classes for women and birthing people in Bexley, Greenwich and Lewisham Borough.


Be responsible for the administration of arranging and advertising the classes, supporting the development of other midwives with an interest in parentcraft, and delivering the classes.

Be responsible for developing the existing classes relevant to the needs of the service users.


You will be working your clinical hours in the area of your choosing which means that you will be based on either Delivery suite, the Inpatient ward, the Birth Centre/Induction suite or the Community.


As well as carrying out your clinical hours where you will be fully competent in your own abilities to provide good evidence-based care in the area you choose, you will also be able to continue your professional development whilst working 2 days per rota in your specialist role.

Whilst in your speciality role, you will participate in and learn around Antenatal Education for the trust.


This will involve:


  • Having a flexible commitment to teaching 15 hours per month.
  • Being comfortable teaching groups online as well as face to face classes.
  • Being confident with online teaching platforms, whilst being innovative you're your teaching methods.
  • Maintaining your equipment in good working order and raising any issues in a timely manner.
  • Answering questions from women and birthing people / members of staff regarding antenatal education.

These services have been developed over the years and are led by a team with a passion for facilitating care to women/birthing people who require additional care during their pregnancies.

Excellent learning opportunities are available via close links with Greenwich and Kings College Universities, enabling continuing professional development.
