    This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious clinical leader to apply for the position of Ward Manager of Day Surgery Unit (DSU) at UHCW NHS Trust. The Day surgery Unit is part of the Surgical Group of the University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. The Day Surgery Unit supports elective and emergency pathways. It is committed to ensuring that patients receive a high standard of care in a safe and caring environment. The adult ward has 31 beds and there are 9 paediatric beds. The Day surgery footprint also provides out patient clinic procedures , Ophthalmology Day unit and The DSU ambulatory elective care (Ultra Pathway)

    Main duties of the job A high profile, accessible and responsive leader with clinical, staff and service responsibility for a defined patient group.

    Able to make informed decisions within their own area and scope of professional practice, involving patients and public to ensure agreed standards, objectives and targets are met. The leader should be able to provide exceptional treatment and care to patients throughout their pathway. Job description Job responsibilities
    • Accountable for own actions in accordance with Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute towards corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.
    • Highly developed communication skills enabling maintenance of high quality service and ensuring timely management and resolution of unexpected events and situations. Undertake bleep-holder responsibilities for the areas on a regular basis.
    • A knowledgeable team leader and resource for staff, advising on national, local and Trust policy and procedures/guidelines, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice. Will support staff and users in service and policy development within a defined area/specialty.
    • Responsible for identifying and assessing complex clinical and non-clinical issues, implementing resolutions and monitoring/auditing outcomes.
    • Responsible for interdepartmental/organisational activities including HR complaints appraisal hospital bleep-holder responsibilities on a regular basis and patient flow.
    • Undertake highly specialised technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management including complex patient monitoring equipment management and administration of invasive tests/procedures.
    • Responsible for education and training provision of identified staff groups, patients and carers within defined areas.
    • Utilise and ensure others utilise information and IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data available.
    • Regularly manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring high but unpredictable levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need.
    • Regularly support patients, carers and staff during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e.g breaking bad news or following an unexpected event.
    • Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.
