    Role overview: Full Stack Software Engineer

    We're looking for a product-minded full stack software engineers to help build ElephantOS Elephant's platform digitises healthcare end-to-end, covering all aspects of clinical care, plus inventory management, health insurance, reporting, and more. Many of our users work in resource-limited environments. Our goal is to deliver beautiful, easy-to-use tools that enable and empower them, thereby improving the quality of healthcare.

    We are seeking a full stack engineer proficient in both back-end and front-end development. While a balanced skill set it ideal, we are also open to candidates with a front-end bias.

    Our technology

    We're tackling complex but fascinating technical challenges. Due to resource constraints in our markets, efficiency is crucial. We must ensure our product performs reliably in all environments, even where internet connectivity and power supply are inconsistent. This also means that we often can't use off-the-shelf solutions.

    Our primary language is TypeScript, significant experience would be beneficial but we welcome candidates with experience in any programming languages or technologies, especially if it's a strongly-typed language.

    On the frontend expect to find a single page React application. Our React app communicates with our backend services via graphQL, and we use React Router, React Hook Form, and Apollo Client extensively across the frontend. For testing, we use Jest, React Testing Library and Cypress.

    On the backend you'll find NodeJS microservices written in TypeScript. We use Kafka to enable our event-driven-architecture, and MongoDB, PostgreSQL, S3 and Elasticsearch for data storage and retrieval. Elephant's platform is multi-cloud: we deploy our services to data centres around the world using ArgoCD and Kubernetes.

    We've invested heavily in our data platform and are using Google BigQuery and Python to provide our customers with amazing health system insights.

    As we scale, the quality of our data becomes more and more valuable. We've invested heavily in a strong security and data engineering foundation, laying the groundwork for a groundbreaking product vision which will help our markets leapfrog others in healthcare quality and access.

    What you'll need:

    Experience as a software engineer working with modern technologies and paradigms. You should have good technical fundamentals and are able to work across frontend and backend.

    This role will be a great fit if you:

    • Have commercial experience developing software in a professional setting
    • Have a product focused engineering mindset
    • Excel in environments with limited information and can demonstrate adaptability and resourcefulness to make decisions and drive projects forward, despite uncertainties
    • Have a good understanding of frontend and backend fundamentals, experience within any of our technologies listed above would be an advantage but it is not essential
    • Are familiar with a JS web framework (ideally React, but possibly Vue or Angular or anything similar)
    • Are able to recognise and balance trade-offs between business and technical needs
    • Reach for simple solutions first and are able to understand what makes a solution scalable
    • Are able to empathise with our different types of users and develop solutions with their needs in mind.
