The Role


The role of our Care Assistants is to work within our care teams to create a comfortable and caring environment which enables residents to flourish and to be as independent as possible, whilst also working within the natural limitations and boundaries of the resident's care needs.


Our Care Assistants contribute to the keeping of accurate records in all aspects of their role and are expected to act as team members, answering enquiries from visitors, relatives and professional bodies relating to the care of the residents, and ensuring that any enquiries or tasks beyond their knowledge or capability are passed on to the person in charge.

Key responsibilities
Person-Centred Care

  • Providing 1 care for residents who need bespoke care packages, residents who are required to isolate due Covid 19 guidelines.
  • Assisting with the personal care of residents including feeding, washing, bathing, dressing and toileting of residents.
  • Promoting social, selfhelp and everyday living skills.
  • Ensuring that all residents retain their privacy and dignity as far as possible.
  • Assisting those residents with limited mobility to make the best use of aids provided.
  • Appropriately supervising residents to ensure their safety at all times.
  • Assisting in the promotion of continence.
  • Participating in group, recreational and day activity programmes, and accompany residents on outings and to appointments as required.
  • Ensuring that all untoward incidents, e.g. falls, accidents, complaints etc, relating to residents are reported to the NurseinCharge.
  • Caring for residents' personal possessions and ensure that all personal information relating to residents remains confidential.
Hospitality

  • Assisting with the serving of food/drinks to residents as required.
  • Assisting in the sorting and laundering of residents' personal clothing and other laundry.
  • Making and changing beds and ensure that bedrooms are clean and tidy.
  • Ensuring that all equipment used by residents is cleaned and maintained.
  • Making visitors to the Home feel welcome and providing refreshments/assistance as required.
  • Treat all service users, colleagues and other third parties in and/or associated with the Home with dignity and respect at all times
Administration & Training

  • Completing all written records as instructed, and in line with, the Company's policies and procedures.
  • Reading and following all the Company's policies and procedures
  • Participating in staff meetings and mandatory training as required.
Health & Safety

  • Reporting immediately to the Nurse Manager or Nurse in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a resident, staff member or self.
  • Ensuring that all Company policies and procedures are understood and adhered to, including fire prevention and precautions, and Health & Safety regulations.
  • Ensuring that all breakages and faulty equipment is reported.
  • Ensuring the security of the Home is maintained at all times.

Essential Criteria
In addition to an enthusiastic attitude and a positive approach, we are looking for individuals who demonstrate the following experience, skills and attributes:

  • Previous experience of caring for others either as a Care Assistant or lead carer for family members or relatives;
  • A genuine interest and passion for working with people with various care needs and making a positive difference to all aspects of their daily living experience;
  • A confident communicator with a good command of the English language, both written and spoken, who builds rapport easily with residents, relatives and colleagues;
  • A team player who can work effectively as a key member of a care team which is focused on delivering excellence;
  • Kindness, empathy and an acute understanding of the challenges facing residents as they come to terms with living in a new care environment;
  • The ability to comply with NISCC registration requirements and satisfy the requirements of an Enhanced Access NI check.

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience of working with a professional care environment
  • Previous experience and/or training in care planning or activity coordination
  • NVQ2 in Health & Social Care, related area or equivalent or higher recognised qualification.
