    Join our team at our client, where they're embarking on an exciting journey to construct the groundbreaking Pumped Hydro Storage scheme, their next major project valued at approximately £750 million, located close to Loch Ness. Our client will be the owner/client organization, and the work will be predominantly delivered by a Tier 1 civil contractor. We're seeking a highly skilled Lead Mechanical Engineer to play a pivotal role in the design, implementation, and optimization of the hydro-mechanical/electromechanical aspects of this innovative project.

    The Role

    • Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, the Lead Mechanical Engineer will oversee and assure the hydro-mechanical/electromechanical design, implementation, operation, and optimization of the Pumped Hydro Storage scheme. Key responsibilities include:
    • Providing technical leadership on hydropower (mechanical) engineering issues to the project team.
    • Reviewing consultant/contractor designs and calculations, mechanical and electrical generating equipment designs, and instrumentation control systems.
    • Preparing tender packages and negotiating tenders for key mechanical equipment packages.
    • Representing the company in meetings with designers, contractors, and stakeholders.
    • Providing assurance and oversight of hydro/electromechanical engineering throughout pre-delivery and delivery stages.

    The Candidate

    • 15+ years of experience in hydropower or similar engineering design and build roles.
    • Mechanical engineering design and installation experience in the energy or major utilities sector.
    • Experience across at least one full life cycle of design and build schemes.
    • Expertise in preparing employers' requirements/tender packages and oversight/assurance roles through delivery.
    • Experience in document control/management on major infrastructure schemes and mechanical civils interfaces.
    • Design management/project management experience.
    • The successful candidate will display technical leadership, Attention to detail, Ability to build relationships, Strong presentation skills and have a self-starter mentality

    Required Qualifications

    • Chartered mechanical engineer
    • MEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
    • Member of IMechE or equivalent national or international professional organizations
    • Project Management qualifications such as APMQ or similar
    • Contract qualifications such as NEC accreditation or similar
