The diagnosis of a life-limiting illness brings many life changes and challenges.
Not only are there physical, medical, psychological and emotional aspects of an illness to cope with, but other aspects including the impact on the future, family and working life, leisure and social activities, housing and financial security.
Our Family Support team (FST) includes experienced practitioners and trained volunteers, who work closely with colleagues across the Hospice and external organisations where appropriate, to support patients/clients and families during their challenging times.
Our team works with people of all ages. We understand that problems and difficulties arise in the context of our relationships, so we work systemically and holistically. As part of the hospice's multi-professional team, we offer confidential support and therapeutic intervention to patients/carers and families who are managing physical symptoms and adjusting to illnesses that may not be curable, as well as to individuals, couples and families of all ages who are bereaved or facing bereavement; supporting and enabling them to consider, adjust to and make decisions about the challenges and changes they are facing in their circumstances and relationships.
