JOB TITLE:
LEGAL ADVISOR


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Negotiating and implementing action(s) relating to providing timely, high quality, pragmatic, commercial legal advice in a professional manner.
  • Providing legal advice and support to business development activities including the formation of new companies and joint ventures.
  • Facilitating and delivering legal training programs.
  • Providing a legal risk management and mitigation service to the wider business including researching and monitoring legal developments in areas affecting the business, advising and working with colleagues to ensure timely and effective compliance with relevant legal requirements.
  • Researching and preparing documentation for meetings and seminars.
  • Attending meetings and liaising with external advisors and counsel.
  • Drafting legal correspondence and negotiating preliminary agreements including confidentiality agreements; MOUs; heads of terms; consortium agreements and MSA's.
  • Maintaining legal department filing system.
  • Assisting with legal administrative functions including keeping up to date records on bid activity, protocol escalation and external legal spend.
  • Working with all other relevant group functions.
  • Adhering to the Petrofac Code of Conduct as updated and published from time to time and helping support their implementation as part of the legal function; to fulfil all other mandatory elearning modules published from time to time.
  • Assisting the Senior Legal Advisor(s) generally concerning the work of the Legal Department.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:


  • Ideally having inhouse or private practice experience in onshore/offshore commercial contracts for construction, engineering, maintenance, operations or in the energy/oil and gas industries.
  • Familiarity with standard construction and engineering forms (e.g., FIDIC, NEC, LOGIC) is advantageous, but not essential.
  • Ability to take ownership of requirements/issues and ensure they are resolved to meet objectives; being responsive to client demands.
  • Attention to detail is absolutely critical to this role.
  • Team player and "can do" attitude is another essential part of this role ability to work effectively as part of a team both within the legal department and alongside other departments.
  • Confidence to clarify instructions at the outset.
  • Ability to prioritize work and ensure that more senior lawyers are informed of progress so that all deadlines (individual and/or team deadlines) can be met and expectations can be managed.
  • Legal research skills for various jurisdictions.
  • Ability to think commercially and anticipate the business's objectives.
  • Experience of working in a fastpaced commercial organization turning around a large volume of work, usually within a tight deadline while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Willingness to commit to developing legal knowledge.
  • Effective and clear communicator with a pragmatic, methodical, detailoriented, flexible and dynamic approach.
  • Effective and capable of working with little supervision.
  • A selfstarter, outgoing and able to adapt to different business environments and cultures.
