- Designing structures:
Design the framework and support systems of buildings and other structures to ensure they can withstand various loads, including gravity, wind, snow, earthquakes, and other environmental factors. - Analysis and assessment:
Analyse the structural integrity of existing buildings and infrastructure, identifying potential weaknesses or areas for improvement. This may involve conducting inspections, evaluating materials, and performing calculations to assess structural soundness. - Compliance with regulations:
Ensure that all structures meet building codes, regulations, and safety standards set by local authorities and industry organisations. May also assist in obtaining necessary permits and approvals for construction projects. - Collaboration with architects and contractors:
Work closely with architects, contractors, and other professionals involved in construction projects to develop plans and ensure that structural requirements are integrated seamlessly into the overall design and construction process. - Problem-solving:
Troubleshoot structural issues that arise during construction or throughout the lifespan of a structure. They propose solutions to address problems such as foundation settlement, structural instability, or damage from natural disasters or accidents. - Innovation and research:
Stay updated on advancements in structural engineering technologies, materials, and construction methods, and may conduct research to improve design efficiency, sustainability, and resilience of structures. - Professional qualifications (preferred, but not essential)
- Proven track record in working on, and delivering a wide range of building projects
- Experience in industry standard software (Tekla and Master series preferred, but skills from other packages are broadly transferable)
- CSCS Card Holder (preferred, but not essential)
- Clean UK Driving license
