    Job summary

    The Auditory Implant Programme in Oxford is expanding and we are looking for a Band 6 audiologist to specialise in Bone Anchored Hearing solutions and Middle Ear Implants. The Oxford Auditory Implant Programme provides an assessment, surgical, fitting and follow up service for adults and children in the region who cannot wear or do not gain adequate benefit from standard hearing aids.

    You will join a team of Clinical Scientists, Audiologists and will work closely with ENT colleagues to provide this specialist service. The post holder will also be a member of the wider audiology team which includes both adult and paediatric audiology. Some clinical work in these areas may be possible for the interested candidate.

    Although the post is funded as , we would welcome applications from clinicians interested in other part-time contract hours.

    Main duties of the job

    The role primarily involves carrying out assessments of suitability for BAHAs and Middle Ear Implants, together with the fitting and programming of these devices, for predominantly adult patients. Full training will be provided and opportunities for some paediatric work is possible. You will be expected to contribute to service development, evaluation, audit, and research. You will work as part of a team dedicated to quality and effective patient care and be responsible for the adult bone anchored follow-up service.

    We are looking for someone with a positive approach and can-do attitude who has enthusiasm for auditory implants. You will need to have post-qualification experience in adult audiology and some experience with bone anchored hearing aids would be desirable. Previous experience of paediatric second tester would be beneficial, but training can be provided for the right candidate.

    About us

    You would be joining a large team comprising Audiologists, Assistant Audiologists, Clinical Scientists (Audiology), Hearing Therapists and administrative colleagues. There is also an in-house CPD programme and all colleagues are encouraged to take advantage of training and development opportunities within the Trust and beyond. All members of the team are involved in service development as we work towards IQIPS accreditation.

    Applicants should have an MSc in Audiology with CAC / HTS, or STP in Neurosciences (Audiology modality) or have a BSc in Audiology / PTP Healthcare Science (Audiology) with evidence of further training / qualifications in Audiology. You will be an Audiologist or a Clinical Scientist (Audiology) registered with the Academy of Healthcare Science or the Health and Care Professions Council (registered as a Clinical Scientist).

    The post will involve remote working on average for 1 day per week (once fully trained) and the post holder must be able to work Monday, Thursdays, and Fridays. Flexible hours and working patterns may be accommodated beyond this.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • BSc Audiology, PTP Healthcare Science (Audiology) or MSc in audiology with CAC / HTS, or STP in neurosciences (audiology modality)
  • State registered with HCPC as a Clinical Scientist (audiology modality), with RCCP as an Audiologist or with AHCS as a Healthcare Scientist
  • Desirable

  • MSc Audiology
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Evidence of recent CPD activities
  • Experience working as a band 6 Specialist Audiologist / Clinical Scientist in an NHS context
  • Experience in programming BAHAs
  • Experience of hearing aid fitting and verification in adults including real ear measurements.
  • Experience of communicating with colleagues from other disciplines including paediatrics, ENT, education, speech, and language therapy
  • Desirable

  • Experience of training other members of staff including those at same or higher grade (as well as more junior staff)
  • Experience of clinical audit
  • Experience working with Middle Ear Implants
  • Experience acting as a second tester/distractor for paediatrics.
  • Experience of providing monthly returns/reports.
