Position Summary

We are currently looking for an exceptional Data Intelligence expert to join our growing team in Staines-upon-Thames. This is a good opportunity to work with next generation mobile devices from Samsung and solve industry relevant problems.

The role is based at the Samsung R&D Institute in Staines-upon-Thames, Surrey, UK.

We operate a hybrid working model of 3 days working from the office and 2 days working from home weekly.

Role and Responsibilities

As a Principal DI Specialist you will:

  • Lead and mentor a team of researchers through the inception, feasibility, design and implementation phases of projects.
  • Collaborate with academic partners and provide technical contributions to research papers and patents.
  • Propose and develop academic technology partnerships, whilst maintaining existing relationships with Samsung's current partners.
  • Drive the generation of new ideas and opportunities utilizing knowledge representation and reasoning technologies to create new products and services for Samsung.
  • Research and develop a wide variety of DI related technologies that may be applied to Samsung's devices and infrastructure.
  • Provide technical oversight on existing projects through the inception, feasibility, design and implementation phases.
  • Have knowledge of the latest state-of-the art data science techniques.
  • Translate complex functional and technical requirements into detailed designs.
  • Drive the generation of new ideas and opportunities.
  • Generation of research papers, technology proposals and patents.
Skills and Qualifications


Required Skills:


  • A PhD or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Electronics, Natural, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering or any related discipline.
  • A proven postdoctoral research record leading projects in areas including Ontologies, Ontology Languages, Description Logics and Automated Ontology Reasoning.
  • Publications in top ML/AI/DI conferences, including AAAI, ESWC, ICLR, ICML, ISWC, SIGMOD
  • Good understanding of Knowledge Representation and Semantic Web Technologies (OWL, RDF, SWRL, SPARQL)
  • Experience with relational and nonrelational databases, including: triplestore technologies and graph databases.
  • Knowledge of the latest data science techniques.
  • Data modelling and cleansing experience.
  • Experience working with big data sets
  • Exposure/experience with processing tools like Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Impala, and Pig
  • Exposure/experience with SQL and relational databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB etc.)
  • Prior experience with one or more of the following: collaborative filtering, clustering, classification, segmentation, regression, decision trees, statistical models
  • Experience with databases, relational and nonrelational databases, including: triplestores technologies and graph databases.
  • Excellent communication, team work and a resultsoriented attitude


Desirable Skills Experience with natural language processing methods- Experience with Cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud etc.)- Experience implementing a real-world recommender or ranking system- Exposure to CNN, RNN, LTSM- Experience working with different data sources (REST APIs, different database technologies, etc.)

- Good understanding of Semantic Web Technologies and Ontology reasoning- Experience with Business analytics- Project leadership and/or line management experience
