The Controller role is
newly created within the Controllership Function, reporting to the Group Controller
and will be a member of the Finance Management Team (FMT) which in turn reports to the Finance Leadership Team (FLT).

The Controllership Function acts as the custodian of the General Ledger and is responsible for ensuring the completeness and accuracy of all ledger balances.

This role will strengthen the Finance team's ability to meet internal and external stakeholder needs and will also ensure an appropriate controls framework is in place across these processes.


Key objectives & responsibilities include:

Establishing and Embedding a Strong Controllership Function

  • Support the FLT in embedding a culture of risk identification and mitigation within Finance and act as a key player in resolving any BAU issues with a perspective of enhancing the Financial Controls Framework;
  • Drive new ways of working, leveraging Financial technology to find new and innovative ways to optimise BAU Financial Controls processes;
  • Key inputter into the overall controls framework across Finance, with a particular focus on strengthening oversight and control over Balance Sheet reconciliations; and
  • Liaison with both Internal and External auditors on the Financial Control Framework and any new BAU Control processes.

Custodianship of the Ledger

  • Support the Group Controller in their role as custodian of the ledger;
  • Ensure ledger balances by Line of Business and Legal Entity and key metrics are supported by strong substantiation, control and review processes;
  • Assist the Group Controller to drive through best practices for finance processes and develop standard reconciliation processes across all of Finance; and
  • Support the Group Controller in their role as Data Owner for Finance Reference Data and collaborate with Finance Change, the Data Office and Finance BAU stakeholders to define any new reference data.

Quality Assurance (QA) and Review

  • Establish QA capability by developing a framework of processes and control, including analysis, dashboard and KPIs;
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to adopt QA framework;
  • Enable an early review of the financial results for various GAAPs within the Controllership Function before the official preclose review, ensuring the accuracy of the numbers through dashboards, heatmaps and exception reporting; and
  • Drive and have oversight of routes to resolution of data anomalies and reconciliation issues, including visibility of manual adjustment logs, change ticket logs, initiatives and projects.

Communication & Stakeholder Management

  • Provide value added support to the TM HCC International FLT in complying with reporting, accounting, control procedures and regulatory requirements;
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders within and outside Finance across multiple locations, enabling the department to deliver high quality effective support to the rest of the Business; and
  • Work collaboratively with the rest of the FMT and FLT to deliver on strategic objectives.

Transformation & Projects

  • Working with the Group Controller and Finance Change team to contribute to strategic initiatives by providing SME knowledge for changes, including design of embedded controls; and
  • Support International Finance in achieving strategic objectives by engaging into projects and initiatives and ensuring outcomes are achieved.

Skills and Experience Specification:

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Qualified Accountant minimum 10 years post qualified
  • Insurance industry experience
  • Highly IT literate with advanced Excel skills and experience working with multiple systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, experience presenting financial information to a range of stakeholders
  • Highly numerate with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong people and communication skills ability to engage with individuals at all levels and to build strong working relationships
