Description

About the role and our team
Are you an experienced Registered Midwife looking for a new challenge?

Join our friendly team at the Jane Crookall Maternity Unit within Noble's Hospital as a Lead Midwife.

When you join our friendly and supportive midwifery team, Hospital and Community midwifery form part of one service, which means you will be able to work across both areas, rather than being limited to one aspect of midwifery care.

You will work in a fantastic modern 17-bed facility which includes 4 birthing rooms, 2 birthing pools, a dedicated maternity theatre, anaesthetic room and state of the art neo-natal suite.

Using your strong leadership skills, you'll take responsibility for patient care within our maternity unit, ensuring that a high quality service is delivered and that standards are met consistently to a high level.

You will act as a line manger to a designated group of staff members including midwives and midwifery assistants.

This rewarding but challenging role will provide you the opportunity to develop your leadership skills, including acting up to Head of Midwifery to cover absence if required.

What can this role offer me?

By joining us you'll be stepping away from NHS pressures and demands, as the Island's healthcare system is similar but separate to the UK NHS.

You will have access to excellent development facilities and support, including our on-site Health and Social Care Higher Education Centre Keyll Darree.

We offer competitive salaries which tend to be higher than UK salaries with opportunities for annual pay increases for many roles.

You will also enjoy generous annual leave entitlement of 27 days and 10 public holidays and a rewarding pension scheme.

Free on-site parking is available at Noble's Hospital.

Hear from our Midwife team
Amy Walker has lived on the Isle of Man since September 2019.

Amy moved to the island to work as a Midwife on the Jane Crookall Maternity Unit after working for 10 years as a midwife in Wales and a period of time as a midwifery educator in India.

How did you find a job on the Isle of Man?

I was always interested in working as a Midwife on an island and experiencing island life within a smaller midwifery unit.

Whilst doing my research, I came across the Jane Crookall Maternity Unit and contacted the Head of Midwifery to discuss career opportunities here.

Tell us about your job within Midwifery - what do you enjoy most about it?

The continuity model that it offers was a real highlight for me as being able to stay with birthing people and their partners from admission, throughout labour and postnatally is a really exciting aspect of midwifery care for me.

What difference has living on the Isle of Man made to your work-life balance?

The amount of activities and opportunities available to people here are far more than I ever experienced in the UK.

At the age of 34, I thought it would be difficult to start or try new things and to meet new people, however, having never tried it before; I joined a kayaking and outdoor adventure club.
