Description
The position described in this Job Description for full a full time Consultant Physician in Gastroenterology based at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust.
This post is part of the further development of the Medicine Division at Northampton.This has included the building of a new clinician designed Acute Assessment hub for emergency admissions in 2018 and strengthening the specialist services supporting this.
The successful candidate will join the existing team of six Consultant Gastroenterologists and two Locum Gastroenterologists, with this post further enhancing the existing level of specialty expertise and allow further development of gastroenterology and endoscopy services in the hospital and wider South Northamptonshire area.
The appointee will be expected to deliver outpatient gastroenterology care to our local patients through regular clinics, currently based within the hospital and a nearby community hospital at Daventry.
As our local STP develops they should be prepared to deliver this care flexibly and in line with the growth of more community based care for chronic conditions.
This is a post to increase provision of gastroenterology services resulting in seven full time gastroenterologists.This enables the service to provide a daily GI opinion to the admissions units, gastroenterology ward, selecting appropriate patients for our ward and discharging patients for OPD management.
We have also entered into a Group Model with neighbouring Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.Being a large DGH with a proud history, we are big enough to get interesting cases, but small enough to care, coach and develop.
With over 200 consultants, a similar number of trainees and approximately 60medical undergraduates throughout the year, NGH provides comprehensive care and extensive training opportunities.
With this in mind, we have built a state of the art emergency assessment unit (Nye Bevan building) and are developing new ways of working to streamline in-patient care and optimize working with our partners.
NGH also has a large library, gym with swimming pool, and a brand new entrance with Marks and Spencer, Subway and Costa on site.
Qualifications and TrainingCompletion of Specialty Training (CST or equivalent) or within 6 months of achieving it in relevant specialty
MD, PhD or other higher degree
Education / Medical Education Qualification (preferably at Masters level)
Full registration with General Medical Council
Teaching, Audit & Quality Improvement
Experience of Audit and Quality Improvement
Experience of Teaching Junior Staff
Experience of Undergraduate Teaching
Academic achievements and research
Publications in recognised Medicine / Medical Education Journals or Presentations at National Level
Research experience relating to quality improvement
