    Description

    We are working exclusively on the recruitment of a Senior EC&I engineer for a client of ours based in Cambridge. This role has responsibility for electrical, controls and instrumentation design of their decarbonisation products and R&D. Working on both customer products and their in-house production and prototype systems, this role would suit an EC&I engineer who enjoys a varied environment.

    Responsibilities

    • Design of electrical, control and instrumentation systems on our products and prototypes. These include 400V power distribution, control panel schematics, design of instrumentation including safety systems.
    • Calculations and design drawings to communicate the design of control panels, wiring and sensors to customers, suppliers and manufacturers.
    • Writing and responding to requirement documents.
    • Engage with customers to understand and resolve issues, building strong working relationships.
    • Ensuring EC&I systems are designed for safe and reliable operation.

    Candidate Requirements

    • You will be comfortable owning the design of electrical and control systems.
    • You have experience working as a design engineer in electrical, controls and/or instrumentation. This will include design of 400V systems, control panels and PLCs.

    You will be able to demonstrate:

    • Ability to calculate cable and protection sizing at 400V.
    • Ability to use CAD software.
    • Familiarity with different control and sensors systems.
    • Selection of components including PLC cards, 400V protection and distribution, sensors and control cabinets.
    • Strong communication skills which you can adapt to be effective with clients, suppliers and internal teams.
    • Strong commitment to safety.
    • Good IT literacy.

    Experience of some of the following would be advantageous:

    • Ability to understand process or mechanical systems including ability to read PID diagrams.
    • Functional safety design standards such as ISO 13849, IEC 62061, 61511, 61508.
    • Control panel design to IEC 61439.
    • Experience of machinery safety.
    • Experience with EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical.
    • Experience designing ATEX systems.

    Education and qualifications

    • Degree qualified in electrical, electronic engineering or similar. Or significant equivalent work experience.
    • Member of a relevant professional institution, either chartered or working towards chartership.
