An international company based in London is currently looking for a Head of Tax to join their team.

The role will lead the delivery of direct and indirect tax services for the European companies.


Man Responsibilities

  • Strategy and planning_
  • On behalf of Tokyo office, manage the Group tax principles to ensure the overall tax position of the company and its European subsidiaries is optimised
  • Support Tokyo office with the design and delivery of tax effective structures and solutions that facilitate business operations and add value to corporate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures and partnerships across theEurope & CIS region as and when required
  • Colaborate and coordinate with regional organizations and business line companies in the region as well as external providers, to ensure alignment under the joint and several concept and that best practices are shared, to continuously improve the serviceoffering of the tax function;
  • In respect of the company and its European Subsidiaries, proactively and constructively lead the resolution of disputes with tax authorities. For other companies in the Europe & CIS region, support the businesses with their disputes as and when necessary
  • UK Compliance including accounting and reporting:_
  • Responsible for ensuring effective and timely planning, coordinating and managing of the delivery of direct and indirect tax compliance (tax computations, returns, payments and enquiries) for the UK companies consolidated, while reviewing these deliverablesprepared by PWC to which we are outsourcing these services
  • For the above companies, leading the planning, coordination and management of quarterly and annual tax consolidated accounting for IFRS results reporting at a consolidated and standalone level while reviewing these deliverables prepared by PWC to whichwe are outsourcing these services
  • Supporting businesses with the preparation of the transfer pricing documentation for each UK company and ensuring the documentation is uptodate together with Deloitte. This includes coordination of information for the purposes of countrybycountry reportingto Japan
  • Coordinating all UK tax processes to support compliance against the requirements for Senior Accounting Officer for the UK companies within scope
  • Ensuring the UK group of companies meet their obligations under the UK tax strategy provisions, coordinating with the head office in Japan and communicating direction and strategy to other UK companies within the group
  • Leading the external relationships with the HMRC Customer Compliance Manager, the companies' tax advisers and their auditors for the company and its UK subsidiaries
  • Tax governance and tax risk management:_
  • Ensure that the company and its European subsidiaries have robust and effective governance, processes and controls in place whilst making sure that the companies are compliant with laws and regulations
  • Manage the tax governance framework for the company and its European subsidiaries including the delivery of process improvement initiates for the internal controls, assurance and audit aspects of the tax risk framework
  • Support Tokyo office with tax governance matters across the Europe & CIS region as and when required
  • Leadership and communication:_
  • Leadership of a team of five tax staff based in London. Coaching, supporting and developing the whole team as they drive to increase the value that the tax function brings, whilst maintaining the high integrity and ethics applied by the team
  • ATT/CTA qualified
  • Substantial experience including having worked in industry with diverse, multinational operations, commercially focused at a senior regional level and looking to make the first move as a leader of a UK Tax Department
  • Influence a diverse range of stakeholders within both the corporate functions and operating businesses and the experience to manage relationships with external advisers, providers and UK tax authorities in the Europe region
  • A good communicator critical to the role with the ability to communicate the complex to nonspecialists up to Japan and to ensure that tax continues to be seen as an added value function across the whole organisation
  • Confident and articulate in supporting the business and working alongside advisers
  • Ability to manage a team of qualified staff and bring them along on the journey
