    TPG Services have a significant history of success in the UK's Defence sector with a history of successfully delivering science and technology focused consulting services into the Science & Technology, Land, Joint & Maritime domains and servicing the Air domain via Osprey Consulting Services – a specialist aerospace Group company.

    We are investing and are looking to recruit an experienced senior leader who can lead our Capability teams.

    The Role

    The Capability Director is the champion for the consultant skill sets within TPG Services (TPGS) and leads the Capability Practices (skill groups) that define the company's resource. Primary responsibilities:

    • Providing strategic leadership to develop and deploy an evolving consulting capability to enable our exciting growth journey.
    • Ensuring we maintain best-in-class teams through active performance management, and the development our people (promoting career pathways, professional behaviours, and the right environment in which to thrive).
    • Active participation in the senior management team; managing the day-to-day business, driving for the growth and evolution of our business, and communicating regularly across the organisation on business intent, company culture, policy, and behaviours.

    Leadership

    • Direct leadership of our Practice Leads and Capability Practices including operational and resourcing accountability.
    • Develop and manage Capability Practice Strategies with the Practice Teams to align to TPGS' company strategy and the operational needs of the business.
    • Generate a positive inclusive team culture and common purpose to ensure consistency and first-class performance.
    • Build relationships across Science Group, particularly within the sister division of Sagentia Innovation (an R&D consulting business) to seek out opportunities that benefit staff and the company (e.g., establishing cross divisional teams that enable new services, and provide career development opportunities for consultants).

    Capability Demand

    • Ensure SQEP resources are available to projects in response to Delivery Teams' demand signal.
    • Collaborate with leadership and the Delivery Team to develop new capability in line with future needs aligned to TPGS' company strategy and forecasted order book.

    Resource Management

    • Ensure SQEP resources are available to projects in response to market demand, our company strategy and the Delivery Teams' demand signal.
    • Accountable for utilisation of Capability Practice organisation against agreed targets.
    • Drive recruitment of consultants to meet our annual plan and to support the TPGS company strategy.
    • Ensure effective allocation of consultants to tasks in support of the business.
    • Ensure policies and processes are followed.
    • Manage poor performance out of the business.
    • Recognise and pull through talent – accelerating individuals' development opportunities on grounds of merit.

    Capability & Skills Development

    • Management of consulting offerings, underpinning methods, tools, and techniques.
    • Collaborate with key Stakeholders to ensure our capabilities are coherent across the business and manage capability development plans and budgets.
    • Own the career development pathways for our practices, consistently improving our value to our customers and in support of our company strategy.
    • Training, mentoring and performance review of our consultants.

    About You

    Essential experience

    • Senior consultancy leadership experience delivering within defence and security consulting environments.
    • Strong team leadership experience providing direct management with proven sustained success.
    • Leadership and management of large teams.
    • Strategy development and deployment with respect to long term performance.
    • Excellent communication, presentation, positive influence, and negotiation skills.
    • Strong Talent Development and Performance Management capabilities.
    • Successful execution of team development and growth through strategic planning and deployment.
    • An established and effective relationship network within the relevant work environments.
    • The role holder will need to complete BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) pre-employment and hold or be eligible to obtain Security Clearance.

    Desirable experience

    • Significant Defence industry experience, managing cross functional teams across all domains.
    • Experienced senior management level role within a fast growth complex organisation.
    • Bid support/leadership for large programmes into both public and private market sectors.
    • Demonstrated experience of Commercial / Contract Law acumen within significant (£m+) long term programs.
    • Senior stakeholder management experience.
    • High standard of education in a related field (Degree or similar).
    • Recognised professional industry qualification (eg IET, IMechE, ILM, APM etc.).

    • To gain SC clearance you will normally need at least 5 years' UK residency.
