An exciting opportunity is now available to take on a brand new role as the Trust's Green Agenda and Sustainability Lead.

This role will lead a significant programme of work supporting the Trust's Green Plan, which has ambitions to meet carbon emissions and pollution reduction targets for the NHS.

We want to deliver care that is sustainable and adaptable to climate change and our Green Plan supports this.


We are looking for an experienced leader to be responsible for the planning, delivery, reporting and effective management of a number of projects within our Green Plan.

The successful postholder will be a leader who is passionate and proactive, able to work collaboratively across Trust departments - including estates, contracting and clinical service lines - and with external partners and stakeholders and has a technical understanding of the various aspects of decarbonisation.

  • Experience of working with senior leaders internally and externally
  • Experience of producing project plans that meet deadlines for large programmes of work.
  • Experience of drafting reports for committees and programme board meetings
  • A strong track record of service redesign, performance and change management
  • Significant experience of working in the NHS
  • Knowledge of the funding processes and opportunities related to green investment, inclinding leading the development of bids for external funding and influence the Trust's capital investment and lifecycle funding plans for sustainability and decarbonisation initiatives.
  • Significant experience of NHS Green agenda and green, environmental and sustainability approaches, opportuntiies and challenges.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise own work and that of others to meet required deadlines

About our locations:

Tolworth Hospital, Surbiton


To create the very best environment to care for our patients, this site's layout will be transformed in 2026 to add a number of wards to the existing three.

Tolworth has a canteen and is near shops, the A3, Tolworth station, and is a bus ride from Surbiton station, with fast connections to Clapham

Green agenda development, Planning and Organising

  • To lead the implementation of the Trust Green Plan Delivery Programme, including establishing and leading the new Green Group, made up of staff and service users, tasked with the promotion and support behaviour change and the overseeing the delivery of our Green Plan
  • Define key sustainability and green measures and audit and benchmark delivery against these, such as recycling initiatives and consistent signage or tools for teams to calculate/track their carbon footprints.
  • To lead and manage the integration of Green Plan activities into existing programmes of work for example, health inequalities, quality improvement and transformation to add value.
  • Work with colleagues internally to ensure that green and sustainability considerations are included in impact assessment and risk assessment and management within wider Trust programmes and standard ways of working.
  • Lead the development of business cases and secure funding for this programme of work, specifically leading on bidding for Salix and other available funding; and influencing the Trust's capital investment a
