Objective of the role:


Lead an RSD team of 2-3 persons whilst undertaking an active role in the unloading of parallelised incoming waste prior to acceptance inspection by Chemist.

Once inspected, this waste will require segregation and storage in appropriate storage bays. Following this processing may be required as directed. Working nights plus 25% shift allowance


Main Duties:


  • To lead an RSD team of typically 23 persons.
  • To act as main liaison between the team and site management.
  • To ensure the team is working towards and achieving relevant KPIs.
  • To organise activities for team members in an effective and efficient manner to meet the requirements of the business, and to review and adjust these activities on an ongoing basis
  • Ensure all administrative tasks, recording, checks and reporting (eg of incidents/near misses/spillages) is undertaken by the team
  • Communicate and liaise effectively with other teams on site to ensure appropriate allocation of resources and effective movement of materials on site.
  • Complete all preuse FLT inspections, reporting any faults to Management.
  • Complete PUWER safety checks on any equipment or tools used, recording on the appropriate form where one exists.
  • Safely operate a counterbalance FLT in line with the company's P.A.S.S policy.
  • Weighing of incoming loads on the site weighbridge prior to unloading the vehicle.
  • Control of vehicle movements on site (if trained as a banksman)
  • Unloading of incoming loads into inspection bays for Chemist to inspect the load.
  • Assisting chemists in checking the load as required (eg removing clips/lids, restacking pallets etc)
  • Weighing of individual items on pallet scales if they are priced by weight.
  • Separation and segregation of inspected waste to ensure all waste placed into storage bays are not leaking, are safe/compliant without the chance of collapse occurring and waste is compatible to be stored in storage bay in line with HSG 71

Chemical Warehousing:
The Storage of Packaged Dangerous Substances and Environmental Permit with all labels for waste are visible.

  • Assisting chemists in checking the load as required (eg removing clips/lids, restacking pallets etc)
  • Weighing of individual items on pallet scales if they are priced by weight.
  • Separation and segregation of inspected waste to ensure all waste placed into storage bays are not leaking, are safe/compliant without the chance of collapse occurring and waste is compatible to be stored in storage bay in line with HSG 71

Chemical Warehousing:
The Storage of Packaged Dangerous Substances and Environmental Permit with all labels for waste are visible.

  • Ensure maximum storage capacity in storage bays is achieved by repalletizing material to allow it to be double stacked upon or for it be used as a top stack.
  • Housekeeping activities including sweeping, litter picking and drum crushing.
  • Repacking of material into new containers as required. Sorting and segregating as directed where required.
  • Bulking of waste as directed by a technically competent person.
  • Completion of batch sheets/lists to ensure traceability of all waste processed.
  • Preparation of outgoing loads (picking pallets from storage)
  • Housekeeping activities including sweeping, litter picking and drum crushing.

  • Bulking of waste as directed by a technically competent person.
  • Completion of batch sheets/lists to ensure traceability of all waste processed.

  • Loading of outgoing vehicles
  • Loading hook loader outgoings
  • Promote a positive Health and Safety driven environment reporting near misses at a KPI of 1 per month and rectifying any potential concerns for Health and Safety readily.
  • To assist other teams as directed when required.
  • To perform other duties as reasonably required by the business

Competencies & Personal Specification

Critical Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:


  • Experience of working in the Hazardous Waste Sector (ideal but not compulsory)
  • Warehousing experience (ideal but not compulsory)
  • Must demonstrate willingness to work in outdoor conditions in a hazardous chemical environment undertaking a manual/hands on approach
  • Must be able to read in order to understand written safety instructions including chemical labelling
  • Must be able to write and have basic numeracy skills in order to prepare batch sheets for traceability
  • Must be able to understand spoken English in order to understand verbal safety instructions
