    Job summary

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinical or counselling psychologist or experienced CBT therapist to apply for a full-time Band 7 post within the Community HIV Specialist Service and the ME/Chronic Fatigue Service within the geographical area of Sussex. The post holder will be offering assessment and treatment to individuals with HIV or ME/chronic fatigue syndrome who may have complex life experiences of trauma, mental health conditions or substance use which may affect the management of their health condition. The post holder will also offer reflective practice sessions to specialist nursing and allied health care professionals.

    This would be an ideal opportunity for a compassionate and non judgmental individual who is interested in developing their skills in offering psychological support to individuals with HIV and/or ME/chronic fatigue and supporting other colleagues to provide both psychologically informed and trauma informed care.

    You would be working closely with our lead psychologist who would offer ongoing support and supervision. You would be working alongside experienced ME practitioners and HIV specialist nurses with an MDT approach to caring for these patients.     Person Specification

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • A registered/accredited Psychology profession: Clinical/Counselling/Health Psychologist or CBT therapist with relevant professional qualification equivalent to Masters (post graduate) degree level.
  • Equivalent experience and additional therapy accreditation in NICE guideline evidence-based practice ( BABCP).
  • Desirable

  • Specialist training/or experience relevant to Trauma, trauma informed care, substance use and stigmatized groups and reflective practice or willing to undergo professional development in such training.
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Experience of using CBT to treat the full range of common mental health problems as well as OCD, phobias and trauma
  • Experience of assessment and therapy with patients with long term health conditions and co-morbid psychological problems either in a specialist health psychology service, acute hospital, or within an IAPT service/ primary care or equivalent
  • Experience of working with and assessing a wide variety of client groups presenting with a full range of clinical severity across a range of care settings such as including outpatient, community, primary care, or hospital in-patient and physical healthcare setting. Maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Experience, commitment and enthusiasm for working within a multidisciplinary team setting and working collaboratively with other disciplines from physical and/ or mental health. Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care
  • Experience and ability to manage own caseload and time
  • Desirable

  • Experience of working psychologically and therapeutically with patients living with long term health conditions such as HIV or chronic fatigue
  • Evidence of continued professional development relevant to working within a specialist long-term health conditions psychological therapy service
  • Experience of working within NHS psychological therapy services or equivalent
  • Skills and Knowledge

    Essential

  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of research evidence, national guidance and clinical protocols for psychological interventions for patients with long term health conditions
  • Ability to synthesise complex information and to present options and recommendations in a manner that is clear and acceptable to clients and colleagues
  • Desirable

  • Excellent organisational & negotiation skills, the ability to lead & influence change & the ability to influence these skills in others.
  • Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and severely challenging behaviours
  • Ability to identify, and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour
  • Other requirements

  • Ability to travel to all locations across the locality (public transport is not available to all destinations). If not a car owner/driver, please state how you will travel
