    Legal plays an important role in protecting the Group's reputation by helping to future-proof the organisation through robust legal risk and issue advisory. Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all businesses and functions, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.

    This position will be part of a team that provides litigation, regulatory enforcement and investigations-related advice, guidance, and support to the HSBC Group in the UK. In particular, you will support the Global Investigations and Regulatory Enforcement team, which is a specialist sub-team within LREI and is responsible for investigation of all allegations or incidents involving impropriety or possible breaches in law, regulation or policy that pose significant legal, regulatory and/or reputational risk to the HSBC Group or its affiliates. You will manage a portfolio of matters; direct outside counsel where applicable; and partner with various other functions across the HSBC enterprise to manage risk and protect the Group.

    In this role you will:

  • Lead investigations from planning to conclusion, including determination of scope; evidence gathering and review; conduct of interviews (preparation, leading, writing up); and report writing;
  • Provide legal advice, guidance and support on a variety of investigations and litigation to ensure that the Group's exposure to legal risk is managed; across various HSBC Lines of Business and/or Functions in accordance with established policies and procedures;
  • Be a trusted adviser to the Bank by ensuring that commercially sensitive, pragmatic and practical legal support and advice is provided in a cost-effective manner;
  • Help manage external legal spend and support/drive productive, efficient and focused relationships with external providers;
  • Ensure key stakeholders are appropriately briefed on issues arising in relevant business areas and major legislative changes in impacting HSBC from a legal risk/litigation risk standpoint.
  • Requirements

    To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • An experienced qualified lawyer with investigations and regulatory enforcement and/or litigation experience either in-house for a large complex business or private practice;
  • Ability to establish close mutually supportive working relationships with other members of the HSBC LREI Legal team and the Global Legal Function, as well as developing network outside the Global Legal Function;
  • Gravitas and maturity to gain the confidence of senior management right from the outset;
  • Strong lateral thinking/problem solving ability with forward-leaning proactive approach;
  • First-class written and oral communication skills.
