    An exciting opportunity has arisen to expand our education team across acute Paediatrics at York and Scarborough Hospital. We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and flexible individual, with a strong focus on training and education to support the Band 7 Clinical Educators to develop and drive forward a robust education programme for the nursing workforce.

    This fantastic position gives you the opportunity to design and deliver high quality training and education to colleagues across acute Paediatrics, as well as supporting the delivery of paediatric focused education to teams within the wider Trust. You will be required to work in the clinical settings, working alongside nursing staff to provide supervision and training, supporting practice development.

    This secondment will finish on the 31st March 2025.

    Main duties of the job

    The Clinical Skills Educator main duties include but are not limited to:

  • Plan and facilitate training days for the nursing teams and student nurses
  • Able to present and teach, demonstrating a sound teaching approach utilising mixed media, simulation and creating a positive learning environment.
  • Work alongside nursing staff and students to provide direct clinical based teaching
  • Support new starters and help to co-ordinate the preceptorship period
  • Maintain a high profile within the clinical area acting as a role model positively influencing practice at all times and challenging poor practice.
  • Develop, implement and deliver competency based clinical education
  • Work with clinical teams to ensure students are exposed to a wide range of learning opportunities
  • Further develop own competence and ability to teach a wider range of skills as required to disseminate best practice
  • Review and update clinical competencies in line with best practice
  • Respond to educational requirements that emerge from service need
  • Support the Band 7 Clinical Educator to deliver strategic goals and implement organisational change
  • Work across organisational and professional boundaries and provide specialist advice and expertise
  • Policy development
  • The post holder will be expected to work clinically as part of the role and therefore, must have experience of working in acute Paediatrics. You will be expected to work across both York and Scarborough hospitals and across departments. Base site to be agreed.

    Education, Qualifications and Training

    Essential criteria

  • Registered Children's Nurse, Registered with the NMC
  • Recognised teaching certificate or equivalent experience
  • Educated to degree level Evidence of CPD relevant to current role.
  • Willing to undergo training as necessary to undertake role
  • Desirable criteria

  • Teaching qualification
  • EPALS
  • Experience & Knowledge Required

    Essential criteria

  • At least 2 years post registration experience working in acute Paediatrics
  • Working with a wide range of professionals
  • Awareness of current issues in health care Standards of Professional Practice
  • Knowledge surrounding CAMHS and Safeguarding
  • Desirable criteria

  • Practice experience across varied Paediatric settings
  • Previous experience of delivering clinical training or support e.g. Link Trainer/Nurse
