    The James Paget University Hospital is seeking to appoint a Consultant Ophthalmologist with specialist interest in Glaucoma, as a replacement post.

    The Consultant will have responsibility for providing a specialist glaucoma and comprehensive ophthalmic service in conjunction with their consultant colleagues.

    We are dedicated to providing high quality care for the population of South East Norfolk and North East Suffolk.

    The post is based at the James Paget Hospital, with outreach clinics at Beccles, as outlined in the job plan (see above).

    The position provides an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified specialist to actively contribute to the further development of a modern Ophthalmology service within this highly regarded Trust, with its wide range of acute and community services, which will afford high professional visibility.

    The Trust provides comprehensive acute care for the population of Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and the South Waveney area and for many visitors to the area.

    This acute care provided from the James Paget University Hospital site at Gorleston is supported by other community services at the Newberry Centre, Kirkley Rise North Lowestoft, and outreach clinics.

    The Trust serves a population of approximately 230,000, with 500 beds, 3,370 members of staff, both full and part time and a budget of £129 million per annum.

    We are a University Hospital with a medical school training the next generation of health professionals and developing research.

    The James Paget University Hospital is a high performing hospital with a history of strong performance both financially and in terms of achieving national and local targets.

    The hospital contributes approximately a third of secondary care teaching.

    With the hospital's new University Hospital status there is now a growing emphasis on establishing a research culture within the Trust.

    Provision with Consultant colleagues of a service to the James Paget University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness and the proper functioning of the department 2.

    Out-of-hours responsibilities, including participation in Consultant on-call rota where applicable 3. Cover for colleagues annual leave and other authorised absences 4. Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff 6.

    Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and for contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally 7.

    Participating in medical audit, the Trusts Clinical Governance processes and in CPD 8.

    Where it is agreed between the parties, work on behalf of James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust or services provided by the Trust for other agencies, e.g.

    the prison service.
    MBBS or Basic Medical Degree

    Inclusion on the Specialist Register of GMC and/or hold CCT or have an agreed date for it which is within 6 months of the date of interview.

    Proven Clinical experience in Ophthalmology, with a broad experience of the specialty
    Able to plan and develop the service

    Experience in teaching junior medical staff

    Computer Literate
    Sub specialty training in Glaucoma
    Experience in undergraduate teaching

    Awareness and respect for colleagues, patients and relatives' dignity, privacy, integrity, cultural and religious beliefs
    Ability to travel to meet the requirements of the post
