Senior Practitioner - Pathway Immigration Team

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated senior practitioner to join the Pathway Teams based in Newport. This is a full time position. The team specialises in working with Looked After Children who are seeking asylum.


You will be required carry out a range of complex cases including some court work, age assessments and assist the Team Manager in developing training packages and support to the other members of the team.


Your role will also include being an integral part of the Pathway Service duty system which will include making decisions on information provided to duty and carrying or delegating duty tasks to other staff members.


You will also be expected to undertake supervision duties for the social work assistants and attend management meetings as you intrigrate into the management structure and become part of the stratigic planning for Newport's future.


You will have excellent assessment skills and the ability to engage with service users effectively, with a focus on the safety and wellbeing of children.

You will be skilled in developing and sustaining effective multi-agency working across a range of professional groups.

You will be highly motivated, focused on providing high quality, timely and effective report writing within children and families and have good organisational and time management skills.

You will be part of a highly supportive environment and have good access to training and development opportunities


This post presents an ideal opportunity to further your experience in working with children and developing the position as Senior Social Worker within the the complex field of Immigration Social Work and Looked After Children teams.

This will require you be skilled in time management, balancing the daily demands of complex cases verses supporting and assiting your colleges and manager with daily matters.


You must registered with the Care Council and are expected to have the pre-requist grades to enable you to take on the social work role.
