We are looking to recruit a professional Security Officer to join our in-house Security Team, working to ensure the highest standard of safety and security for the employees and visitors of the National Space Centre.

Applicants should have proven experience within a customer-focused environment, working face-to-face with members of the public, and using automated building systems.

Full-Time - 37 1⁄2 hours per week.

The position requires a flexible and positive attitude towards work, with regular early and late shifts, occasional night shifts and regular weekend working.

A full checkable work history is required.

Rate of pay is £12.67 per hour.

Job Description - Security Team Member


Reports to:
Building Services Manager


Main Purpose:


Using resources and technology available ensure the highest standard of security for the National Space Centre and the artefacts within it, also to ensure the safety and security of the employees and visitors of the National Space Centre.

The duties cover internal and external areas of the centre, which includes the car park, and the peripheral of the area, i.e.

the riverbank and Exploration Drive.


Main Tasks:
Working on a rota system, including nightshifts, to ensure that The National Space Centre has a 24-hour security cover.

To monitor security systems, including CCTV, intruder system, car park and building management systems.

To prevent crime and incidents by vigilant monitoring of activities of both visitors and staff.


To liaise with Duty Managers and all relevant NSC staff on duty at the start/end of each shift to ensure awareness of all incidents past and present.

To ensure that all security procedures are carried out safely and in accordance with the shift check list.

To complete reports to be submitted to NSC personnel, e.g. patrol report, CCTV log, NSC incident reports


Assist and liaise with the Duty Manager and/or Line Manager Supervisor during an incident to ensure relevant security presence is available.

To ensure that all facilities are clear of staff and visitors at the close of business.

To ensure that the building is secured and alarm systems set in accordance with NSC policy.


While maintaining a security presence, always maintain the highest standard of customer care and customer service and be approachable and courteous.


To work as an integral member of the Space Crew team and undertake tasks as and when requested to ensure a high standard of service delivery to visitors to the Space Centre.


To implement and adhere to procedures and process in place to ensure that accurate records are kept with regard to Security of the National Space Centre, its visitors and staff.

Also, to assist in the development of these procedures as the centre develops and changes take place.

Train up Building Control level with Fire Marshall, First Aid or other Marshall duties as required.

To undertake and record regular Health & Safety and Technical checks, as required by the organisation.

To abide by all health and safety policies and procedures (including emergency procedures).

To assist the Technical Team where necessary, including start-up and closedown of the exhibition and similar duties.


To play an active role within corporate functions, including support for licensing requirements, pre and post event arrangements and similar duties.


To undertake any other tasks consummate with the post, as directed by the Security Manager, or member of the management team.

Undertake in-house and external training as necessary.

Person Specification

Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience in a customer focussed security role
  • Experience of working with CCTV and alarm systems.
  • Competent in completing security related tasks including patrols, regular checks, reports, fire alarm systems.

Skills:


  • Confident communication skills written, verbal and interpersonal
  • Ability to prioritise busy and varied workload
  • Basic IT literacy is essential
