Sewell Wallis are working with a large business in Sheffield currently looking to recruit a Tax Manager.

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Tax Manager to manage the Group's statutory tax obligations across all taxes as well as manage theGroup's tax risk profile, working as part of the Group Finance team.

The Tax Manager role reports to the Head of Finance and managing two Tax Assistants, as well as managing the Group's relationship with HMRC, external advisors and dealing with tax queries from throughout the Group.

Key Responsibilities;

  • The preparation and submission of UK and Irish Corporation tax filings as well as the preparation of tax for accounts and balance sheet provisioning workings using corporation tax software.
  • Responsibility for all balance sheet general ledger reconciliations for tax as well as corporation tax forecasting for payment purposes and deferred tax recognition support.
  • Detailed review of the Group's UK and Irish intrastat, VAT, Plastics Tax and CT61 returns produced by the tax assistant.
  • Overall responsibility for customs declaration process for moving goods GB to Northern Ireland including review of work carried out by tax assistant.
  • Management of Senior Accounting Officer submission and supporting documentation, including the maintenance of a tax risk register for the group across all taxes and the management of tax control enhancements to mitigate tax risk.
  • Preparation of the Group's employment Related Securities Return, including reviewing with the company secretary and submission to HMRC.
  • Managing the Group's relationship with HMRC across all taxes (Corporation tax, VAT, Employment Taxes and Customs Duties). This will include managing all tax visits, enquiries and working collaboratively with HMRC to inform them of all Group tax issues ina timely manner, in particular, working with the Group's Customer Compliance Manager at HMRC.
  • Preparation and monitoring of group tax policies and procedures e.g. Corporate Criminal Offence, Tax Strategy, Transfer Pricing, Dealing with Off-Payroll Workers and Making Tax Digital.
  • Management of ad hoc tax project work which may include tax due diligence projects or the preparation and negotiation of HMRC tax clearances. The Group Tax Manager will also manage the relationship with the external tax advisors and work collaboratively withteams across the Group to provide tax advice and manage tax risk.
Skills / Qualifications / Experience;

  • Strong technical skills;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Minimum of 2 years experience within a tax environment and keen to work within a commercial environment (ideal first move into industry);
  • Professional Qualification (CTA preferred, ATT, ACA, ACCA);
