RSR Justice are currently recruiting on behalf of our client based in Birmingham for Private Tenancy Officer's to be responsible for the thorough investigation of all notified cases of harassment and illegal eviction.

These are full time, temporary positions initially for 6 months and offers a rate of pay of £14.83.


Main Duties:


  • Responsible for investigation of all reported cases of contravention of the following Acts including use of surveillance equipment if appropriate and dealing with all appropriate aspects of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, Accommodation Agencies Act 1953, Rent Act 1977, Housing Act 1980, Protection from Eviction Act 1977, Landlord and Tenant Act 1985, Housing Acts 1985, 1988, 1996 and 200
  • Provision of advice and assistance to the general public, landlords, neighbourhood staff, voluntary organisations, other Authorities.
  • Interviewing members of the public experiencing problems associated with the above Acts.
  • Act as the Department's representative in all Court under the legislation listed in (2) above.
  • Responsible for the promotion of Tenants Rights so as to ensure private tenants are aware of legislation and entitlements and of the services offered.
  • To assist in the preparation and production of appropriate Housing information leaflets and literature relating to private rented accommodation.
  • Responsible for operating the Call Before You Serve Service to landlords to assist in the prevention of homelessness.
  • Responsible for the collation and dissemination of information on initiatives within the Private Rented Sector to a wide range of customers.
  • Maintain effective links with Neighbourhood, Statutory and Voluntary Organisations.
  • Generate and participate in corporate/working groups, particularly those involved in the Private Rented Sector.
  • Input and retrieve information onto computerized systems.

Essential Requirements:


  • Awareness of legislation which affects the private rented sector and its implications on housing provision including as part of PACE process.
  • Awareness of responsibilities of other Departments and agencies active in the private rented sector of Housing.
  • Knowledge of preventions of homelessness measures.
  • Ability to carry out all duties in respect of the Police & Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 198
  • Ability to interview clients outside the office, examine various alternatives and take appropriate action, (e.g., warning of possible prosecution) including ability to use surveillance equipment.
  • Ability to write clear, concise letters and reports in response to queries from customers and landlords, and people acting on their behalf including Solicitors and other advice centres.
