Salary:
£30,243 per annum rising to £31,719 per annum in two annual increments.

The successful applicants will be expected to provide a quality service in the investigation of public complaints, internal conduct matters, potentially investigating external complaints/conduct for other forces and assisting at times the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

The successful applicants will be expected to maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality at all times.
They also must have proven investigative skills and experience with the aptitude and initiative to solve
problems, have the confidence to make decisions and accurately record their rationale.

They must also be highly motivated individuals who have the ability to work both as part of a team and on their own initiative.

The PSD Investigator role ordinarily sits within Professional Standards and is based at Devizes Police HQ, with agile working.

There may be occasions when PSD staff may be required to attend other estate police buildings, and to travel to meet with witnesses/complainants.

Required Skills:


  • Experience of working as an investigator in a police service or similar investigation environment e.g. Police Force, Customs & Excise, DHSS Fraud Investigations
  • Previous experience of undertaking interviews
  • Enquiring and investigative mindset
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of integrity, discretion and confidentiality

Required Knowledge:

  • PIP1 or PIP2 accredited
  • Knowledge of the Police complaints system
  • Knowledge of Police powers and procedures
  • Knowledge of PACE
  • Knowledge of Criminal Justice system
  • Understanding of confidentiality and Data Protection/Freedom of Information issues
