    Description

    Purpose of Role

    To contribute to the successful delivery of university services to a range of customers, including students, staff, and visitors across the University community by ensuring that relevant areas are readied for business activities. E.g. meeting rooms/spaces, lecture theatres and office spaces. In addition, the provision of support resources to the University's accommodation, hospitality, and conferencing facilities to ensure their effective operation. Activities also encompass support to warehouse and stores management.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide logistical and customer support to cleaning supervisors and cleaners
  • Delivery of housekeeping supplies (linen, cleaning materials, room items (lamps, mattresses, beverage making equipment etc)
  • Sorting and delivery of student mail.
  • Movement of linen and associated items between accommodation halls and other buildings, as required.
  • Movement of beds, mattresses, and other room furniture, as required
  • Movement of bulky or heavy loads, including removal of excess refuse and recycling items
  • Support the set-up/set-down of Learning & Teaching spaces
  • Support the set-up/ set down of Events and Conferencing activities
  • Support the delivery and return of IT / Audio Visual equipment in support of meetings, events, conferences, learning and teaching
  • Unpack and stack incoming goods in warehouse
  • Support organising of warehousing spaces by moving goods and materials as necessary
  • Load and unload goods, furniture, and materials etc into vehicles as necessary
  • Adhere to University policies and procedures relating to Health and Safety, Fire, and other relevant policies.
  • Participate in any Health and Safety activities and/or training as required
  • Participate fully in the University's Personal Development Review process (PDR)
  • Work as part of a team within Logistic Services, providing a flexible, cooperative, responsive support service to colleagues and customers alike
  • Additional duties and functions may be required of the post depending on the development and nature of the operation which are not defined at this time, but which may reasonably be requested to be carried out.

  • Demonstrable ability to speak and understand English to follow verbal and written instructions and deal with customer/student queries
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to allow the post holder to communicate effectively in a range of environments with the context of the role.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of how to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Able to demonstrate and ability to work quickly, flexibly and meet deadline when customer requirements sometimes change at short notice.
  • Able to demonstrate a professional and proactive approach to work activities and good teamwork with colleagues.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Good level of physical dexterity and ability to carry out a range of manual handling tasks – this includes lifting, carrying, bending, crouching, stretching
  • Desirable

  • Experience of working within a similar type of role or in a customer service environment.
  • Experience of working for a large employer with multiple customer groups.
