The University Finance Office is seeking to appoint a Management Account (Research) to support Warwick Medical School (WMS).

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will provide management information for the financial planning and monitoring of school research activities, and provide related advice and guidance within WMS.

In addition, you will assist with the management of financial processes.

A £2,000 per annum market supplement (pro-rated and non-pensionable) is available for the successful applicant on provision of proof of current membership of an approved accounting body and evidence they hold the appropriate accountancy qualifications.

JOB PURPOSE


To provide management information for the financial planning and monitoring of school research activities and to provide related advice and guidance within WMS.

To assist with the management of research financial processes.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The post holder will:

  • Regularly liaise with each Principal Investigator within the Medical School to update them on the status of each of their research projects and to advise them on the best way of achieving maximum benefit from the funds available. This will include calculating forecast cost projections and preparing financial returns, liaising with funders when required.
  • Agree and authorise expenditure on new posts and other activities within the parameters of pre-agreed budgets.
  • Ensure that expenditure booked to research projects is allowable within the parameters of the research contract and conforms to the University's Financial Regulations. Maintain system notes to ensure School financial procedures are fully documented for both finance staff and other users.
  • Ensure that any potential overspend on a project is rectified immediately and advise on how this might be achieved.
  • Assist the Finance Manager with the preparation of the quarterly financial forecasts and the annual 5 Year financial plan for research activities.
  • Assist the Finance Manager with the production of regular management accounts and reports for the Dean and the School Management Team, maximising the use of SAP to improve the efficiency and flow of information.
  • To contribute to University and project working groups as required and to undertake such other duties as may be required by the Head of Finance, the School Secretary, the Dean or other Senior Management.
  • Other duties within the post holders skill and competence as reasonably directed by the Finance Manager (Research).
