Description
Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 nurse to join our team of Childrens Immunology/HIV Nurse Specialists. The role, which will be based within The Leeds Childrens Hospital, is part of a wider regional service.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting consultant-led immunology clinics as well as further developing nurse led services within Immunology. They will also manage established nurse led clinics with HIV relating to baby screening and child testing. The post holder will provide highly specialist care and training, will hold responsibility for the management of a defined caseload and will have an integral role in service development.
The conditions we manage have a huge impact on the childs and familys lives. They are chronic conditions and are often managed with long-term medications. Patients and their families require a high level of support. There is a spectrum of severity within the service, for example, we share care with Newcastle for children undergoing bone marrow transplants and manage their care locally pre and post transplant. This also involves close liaison with regional paediatricians and stakeholders. Most children, however, are managed as outpatients with day-case attendances as required for infusions.
An exciting development within immunology this year is the funding nationally for genome sequencing resulting in specific diagnosis which in turn enables better outcomes for our patients.
