Our friendly Histology Clerical Hub team are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join our busy team of secretaries, MDTs and administrators, to assist with the day to day running of the Histology office.


Key skills:


  • Educated to GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in literacy and numeracy
  • Knowledge of medical terminology desirable but full training will be given
  • Proficient in audio typing (minimum 60 wpm)
  • Computer literate: Have a good working knowledge of all aspects of Microsoft Office
  • Typing correspondence to GPs, medical staff and any other required addressee or other patient contacts as directed
  • Typing Histology reports
  • Ability to use own judgement and initiative and identify and advise on training needs.
  • Organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines
  • Work flexibly within a team, quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and have good problem solving skills

The Histology Department is based within the Pathology Department at Cheltenham General Hospital and is one of the biggest within the South West.

We have a focus on providing a high quality efficient service.

The post-holder will provide an efficient, confidential and professional secretarial and MDT service to the specialty teams. This will include administration and secretarial support to enable provision of patient care and speciality services.

Good communication with patients, relatives, general practitioners and other hospital staff is essential to ensure a proficient, high quality service for patients and clinicians.

The post-holder will be expected to work as part of an Administrative Support Team and will report to the Clerical Team Manager.
