    Description

Applicants are invited for the post of Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Manchester.

We are looking to appoint an internationally-leading respiratory scientist, to support and provide scientific collaboration and leadership alongside respiratory clinical academics. Ideally the successful candidate will provide a bridge between Respiratory Medicine and Immunology (through the Lydia Becker Institute of Immunology and Inflammation) within the School of Biological Sciences, increasing the capability of the School to respond to strategic funding calls by strengthening the pull through from basic science to the clinic. Translational basic science is an area of importance to many of the respiratory groups within the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health. Respiratory Medicine at the University of Manchester benefits from integration with both the Manchester Biomedical Research Centre and the Medicines Evaluation Unit, a UK leader in early phase clinical trials.

The successful applicant will have an established internationally recognised research program in the field of respiratory medicine. We particularly encourage applications from experts in mechanisms of inflammation in lung disease with a translational focus. Working collaboratively, you will drive world-leading research to enhance our strengths in respiratory medicine, complementing our overall multidisciplinary strategy, and contribute to leadership roles to shape the future of respiratory research in Manchester. To strengthen the links between respiratory basic science (based on the university campus) and clinical experimental medicine work (based at Wythenshawe Hospital), it is expected that the successful candidate will work across sites. You will also contribute to our outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate programs within the School of Biological Sciences and wider University; with opportunities to develop curriculum, innovate teaching and provide an exceptional student experience through research-led learning.

What you will get in return:

    • Fantastic market leading Pension scheme
    • Excellent employee health and wellbeing services including an Employee Assistance Programme
    • Exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays
    • Additional paid closure over the Christmas period
    • Local and national discounts at a range of major retailers

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.
