    Title: Stewardship Associate
    Location: London

    Overall Purpose of Role

    Barings is seeking a Stewardship Associate to support the work of Barings's stewardship efforts1 led by the Sustainability & ESG team. Reporting to the Director of Stewardship, the role will comprise engagement with internal stakeholders, clients and investees to enable effective stewardship practices across the firm.

    Principal Responsibilities

  • Help to implement Barings' stewardship guidelines, practices, systems and focus areas
  • Help to further develop stewardship practices across investment and research teams, through training and relationship development
  • Independently conduct ESG research at investment issuer level, and support with firm-level prioritised engagements across investment teams (including collaborative engagements)
  • Support Sustainability & ESG related external reporting obligations (including PRI, UK Stewardship Code, UN Global Compact, etc)
  • Respond to and engage with client inquiries and serve as liaison with internal stakeholders to develop stewardship related responses
  • Coordinate and participate in stewardship activities from industry groups and external bodies
  • Facilitate the implementation and communication, both internally and externally, of Barings' broader sustainability strategy including Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives and ESG Investment Integration
  • Qualifications/Experience Required

  • Demonstrable experience with, and passion for, sustainability topics related to stewardship
  • Awareness of sustainability and ESG-related codes, norms and industry organisations
  • Understanding of the nuances of public and private fixed income, real assets and capital solutions and intersection with stewardship processes and activities
  • Ability to coordinate with numerous investment professionals in a global organisation
  • Understanding of market trends and emerging client preferences
  • Preferred experience, with or understanding of collaborative engagements and engagement with external bodies
  • Bachelor's degree within a business or technical field (Finance, Economics, Sustainability, etc. preferred)
  • Strong understanding of data available in the investment management industry and experience in interpreting such data to support research efforts
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Team-oriented, excellent interpersonal skills and collaborative working style
