Cardiff University is recruiting for the post of Assistant Cardiff and Vale University Health Board Librarian within the University Library Service (ULS) - a role which supports the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board Librarian in the delivery and development of services to Cardiff and Vale University Health Board to support education, patient care, training and research.


  • The role is responsible for assisting the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board Librarian to develop strong working relationships with key contacts in Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. You will assist with the delivery, development and promotion of services as well as providing a mediated information and evidence search service. You will assist with the design and delivery of information skills training, and the development of collections to support clinical practice. In doing this you will assist with management of the library and team at the Archie Cochrane Library, University Hospital Llandough. Additionally, you will support the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board Librarian to build relationships through the NHS Wales Library and Knowledge Service Partnership, a mutually beneficial network of Cardiff University and NHS Wales hospital libraries.
  • This role requires a proactive individual with excellent communication, digital skills and the ability to forge and maintain mutually beneficial relationships both internally and externally. We are looking for someone who is customer focused, a problem solver, quality driven and highly organised with the ability to balance multiple priorities in a changing environment.
  • The post is fulltime, 35 hours per week, and open ended

Salary:

£28,762 to £33,314 per annum (Grade 5)

Key Duties:

- manage the library site in the absence of the library site manager;
- assist the library site manager with management of staff including planning, organising and delegating work, monitoring progress and intervening as required;
- support and guide team members in welfare issues, escalating as necessary to specialist support areas;
- support the delivery of an effective library site service, adapting to changes and customer requirements;
- design and conduct comprehensive systematic search strategies using databases/web search engines to support patient care and research of NHS users;
- provide professional advice and guidance on systematic review and other evidence based methodologies, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action where appropriate, and ensuring complex and conceptual issues are understood;
- participate in the delivery of other information services to the NHS, including current awareness services and supporting NHS staff in collating their research output;
- ensure the delivery of a range of library IT services, both physical and online, adapting to changes and customer requirements;
- gather and analyse data to inform management decisions, establishing basic trends and patterns in data and creating reports as appropriate;
- resolve queries from customers and library staff;
- ensure that the provision of library services is delivered to the institution and Cardiff & Vale University Health Board, proactively changing the delivery according to customer requirements;
- collaborate with others in order to make recommendations for developments of established processes and procedures;
- establish working relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board staff, the University's Schools/Directorates and outside bodies as required;
