    To support the implementation and manage the control of the design process to ensure that design and procurement are delivered to meet Client / Employers Requirements / Contractors Proposals requirements and are in line with agreed cost parameters.

    This role is within an established project team delivering a programme of improvement works to be implemented within live healthcare facilities. The scope of the works to be undertaken includes the design, integration, and co-ordination of a new fire suppression system throughout an acute hospital with subsequent modifications to the building fabric. A Senior Design Manager is required to support the Site Delivery teams in the development and certification of compliant and buildable design solutions responding to the numerous site constraints.

    The successful candidate will need to demonstrate good problem solving, organisational and communication skills which are necessary to work in this challenging environment. Experience of working within a live healthcare environment is desirable, as is a knowledge of NHS health building notes (HBN) and health technical memoranda (HTM). Knowledge of Passive and Active Fire Protection measures is also desirable.

    The role is site based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham

    What you'll be doing

    Manage the development and implementation of design proposals ensuring they meet Client requirements including budget constraints, presenting proposals for approval to the customer. The design should deliver:

    • Safety by design and ensure CDM 2015 compliance
    • Compliance within the Building Safety Act
    • Quality and compliance with legislation and internal standards
    • Ensuring design meets the affordable parameters

    Liaise with all statutory bodies/authorities as required such as Building Control, NHS Fire Officers and Clinical staff.

    Who we're looking for

    This role requires an individual with proven experience in delivering design services within a delivery environment with experience successfully implementing design strategies as well as relevant project experience. Particular experience of delivering such services in Post Construction is desirable.

    Experience of working within a live healthcare environment is desirable, as is a knowledge of NHS health building notes (HBN) and health technical memoranda (HTM). Knowledge of Passive and Active Fire Protection measures is also desirable.

    Relevant Professional membership with an appropriate institute, e.g. RIBA, BIBSE, IET, aligned to the workstream is recommended. A valid CSCS card is a requirement.
