This is a 10 PA locum post for a consultant nephrologist starting in February/March 2023 for 12 months.

The post will support the existing innovative clinical and academic programme in chronic kidney disease, community-based kidney care, renal transplantation and dialysis across the North Central London sector.

The postholder will provide a 1:9 nephrology on-call commitment and specialist clinic at Hampstead site and general nephrology clinic, dialysis and inpatient reviews at Barnet hospital.

In addition the post includes virtual CKD triage, support for renal biopsies and full participation in the educational and CPD activities of the department.


  • A weekly specialist clinic at RFH with a standard template for a 4 hour clinic with an additional hour of admin time.
  • Care for a cohort of approx. 50 haemodialysis patients based at Barnet hospital
  • A weekly general nephrology clinic at Barnet hospital with a standard template of 4 hours and 1 hour of additional admin time
  • Inpatient review for renal patients at Barnet hospital once per week
  • Provision of virtual kidney care consultations via an online advice and guidance portal.
  • A commitment to the 1:9 consultant of the week nephrology and renal transplant on call rota at the Royal Free Hospital. This activity includes, morning handover, daily ward round of around 30 renal inpatients, discharge planning and review of all new admissions under nephrology. The activity includes weekend working and occasional out of hours advice during the week on call.
  • Attendance at weekly Xray meeting, Renal pathology meeting and academic afternoon at RFH
  • Participation in the supervision and training of specialty trainees and clinical scientists, teaching of other junior trainees, medical students and hospital staff as appropriate
