    Junior Producer

    BBC Radio 1Xtra:

    1Xtra's Alternative Selection with CassKidd (Tuesday 21:00 - 23:00)

    1Xtra's Dancehall Show with Seani B (Thursday 21:00 - 23:00)

    We are looking for a Junior Producer to join our team producing specialist music shows for BBC Radio 1Xtra.

    A Producer's key responsibility is to create an environment where the talents of the contributors and crew can flourish. Producers are accountable for the success of the finished production and will steer the production from beginning to completion and beyond.

    You will lead and inspire a team to develop and deliver content, ensuring that it achieves the highest creative and editorial standards, delivers on time, with adherence to BBC guidelines. Working closely with on-air talent and other production staff to bring the best content to air.

    Our team

    Based in New Broadcasting House, in the heart of London, our radio team are responsible for the production and delivery of our portfolio of weekly radio shows: 1Xtra's Alternative Selection with CassKidd, 1Xtra's Afro Sounds Show with DJ Edu, 1Xtra's Dancehall Show with Seani B, The 1Xtra Rap Show with Kenny Allstar, and 1Xtra's RnB Show with Chuckie. As part of the radio team, you will be an intrinsic part of delivering further innovation which attracts new audiences.

    What you will do

    • Live studio production
    • Record and edit packages and other pre-records
    • Generate ideas and research content
    • Book guests and contributors
    • Liaise with the music team, pluggers and managers to inform music curation, coordinating sessions and specials
    • Be accountable for the compliance and delivery of content, acting within BBC Editorial, Legal and Health & Safety guidelines
    • Write scripts and running orders to communicate show plans with talent, fulfilling programme briefs
    • Lead, motivate and support a team, ensuring that the editorial vision is communicated and understood
    • Talent management and development
    • Deputise where appropriate for senior team members
    • Keep up to date with emerging industry trends
    • Represent the interests of our radio shows in network meetings
    • Connect with both internal and external stakeholders, generating ways to syndicate and exploit our content
    • Produce pre-production briefings for presenters, reporters, technical staff and other contributors
    • Manage the logistics of getting people, resources and equipment together at the right place at the right time

    What you will bring

    • 2+ years of experience working in audio production
    • Experience in using software such as Dira, Proteus and iBroadcast to create, edit and deliver radio programmes, show descriptions, compliance information and now playing data consistently
    • The ability to create strong relationships with Radio talent and Production teams
    • A deep knowledge and experience across the full range of contemporary music genres, including but not limited to: R&B, Rap, Dancehall, Afro Sounds and Alternative Black Music genres
    • Developed knowledge of BBC Radio's output and that of its competitors in commercial radio and streaming services
    • Demonstrable passion for broadcasting to appropriate audiences, and knowledge of those subjects which fascinate, entertain and appeal to this audience
    • An innovative and imaginative approach to programme ideas and ability to motivate colleagues to take creative risks within parameters
    • Experience in spotting changing trends within the contemporary music culture
    • Reliability, trustworthiness and excellent editorial judgement
    • Creativity and the ability to continuously generate ideas for the shows
    • The ability to stay calm under pressure – particularly in a live broadcast environment when unexpected things can happen
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Excellent time management and planning skills to make sure that the programme makes it to air at the right time, with all the correct components, but also that trails are played in full, utilising back timing skills where necessary
    • Confidence in studio settings, and a readiness to learn about emerging technologies and new equipment
