We have an opportunity for you to join our Energy Capital team and support the delivery of retrofit projects across the West Midlands.

As our Energy Projects Officer, you'll provide effective project management, data analysis and reporting support, and engage with and support our partners to deliver high quality home retrofit projects.

This is a great opportunity to join a great team that is growing and driving a high-profile agenda in the West Midlands.

This role is fixed term initially for two years.

What will you be doing?

  • Support WMCA's retrofit project leads to successfully deliver multiple retrofit projects to time and budget. Projects will include Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, Home Upgrade Grant and Net Zero Neighbourhoods projects
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with partners, including registered providers of social housing, BEIS and the Midlands Net Zero Hub and respond to communications from consortium members and stakeholders in a timely manner
  • Liaise regularly with the finance department and other teams within WMCA to support project administration and budgeting
  • Ensure reporting requirements are met for the projects, and that information is collected in a timely fashion to share with funding partners
  • Help shape and develop projects that contribute to the WMCA's aim of making the West Midlands Net Zero by 2041


Established by the Mayor of the West Midlands to explore new models of regional energy governance and delivery, Energy Capital is the smart energy innovation partnership for the West Midlands.

Working with local authorities, regulators, energy companies and national government, the team is responsible for the delivery of the Regional Energy Strategy and securing the investment and powers necessary to enable this.

Our partnership, with its secretariat based within the Combined Authority, combines energy infrastructure providers, ambitious local authorities, world-leading academic expertise and innovation support, with diverse businesses and leading energy entrepreneurs.


About you*We're looking for someone who has supported a wide range of projects and is motivated by climate change or a career in the energy sector.

You'll be organised, flexible, happy to do a range of project tasks, ensure projects are delivered to time and budget and be comfortable engaging with stakeholders.

You'll take an active role in supporting projects leads to deliver high quality retrofit projects helping to solve problems and ensure projects contribute to the region's Net Zero target.

Essential Skills/Knowledge/Abilities**- Excellent analytical skills, able to review information and determining the best approach

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to confidently extract information, understand perspectives and persuade and inform key stakeholders
  • Excellent communicator, with the ability to draft both technical and nontechnical documents for a range of audiences with different knowledge levels
  • Desire to help and support others; with a strong team ethic
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a fastpaced, highly technical team
  • Desire to learn and develop and continuously improve and help others to do so too
  • Good IT skills, with experience of MS Office suite, particularly producing high quality documents in Word, Excel and PowerPoint or equivalent
