Employee Relations Project Advisor/ Employee Relations Manager - 12-month contracts


Our client The University of Southampton are currently looking to recruit an Employee Relations Project Advisor and also an Employee Relations Manager both on a 12-month contract.

These are hybrid roles which will involve working 1-2 days on site and theremaining days remotely.


Salary scale - £32,348 - £39,745


Employee Relations Project Advisor - This role will be to support the Employee Relations Lead and Employee Relations Team with the implementation of new Employment Procedures.


Responsibilities will include:


  • Plan, develop and produce guidance for HR, Staff and Managers to support Employment Procedures, taking into account the multiple perspectives and roles involved, using knowledge of Employment law, best practise and equality and diversity considerations.
  • Engage with a broad range of stakeholders in the development and approval of content, seeking feedback and gaining buyin.
  • Create an online framework to present the new content in an accessible way to staff at the University (and other users where relevant), taking into account broader HR content location and style.
  • Develop an implementation plan to launch, communicate and promote the new procedures and guidance

Employee Relations Manager - This role will be managing employee relations casework to achieve appropriate resolution.

  • Casework will include but is not limited to disciplinary and grievance, sickness absence management, performance management: absence management, capability, redundancy/ change to terms and conditions, other issues leading to termination of employment.
  • You will be providing practical advice, guidance and support to Managers across the University on ER policy and process issues.
  • Identify and support/deliver any training or coaching as required to individual managers or groups
  • Develop and maintain the ER toolkits

You will need:


  • Skill level equivalent to achievement of a professional HR qualification of postgraduate degree
  • Full Chartered Member of CIPD or equivalent experience
  • Up to date knowledge of UK employment legislation and HR good practise
  • Experience of advising colleagues and managers on HR Policy, procedure and terms and conditions of employment.
  • Proven experience of producing written guidance or similar within a strict timescale, incorporating multiple stakeholder input.
  • Understanding of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion principles.
