Job summary
Please note, this vacancy is being advertised bu One Wight Health Ltd - GP Federation on behalf of Cowes Medical Centre.
Hours: 20-30hours per week, at least 3 days across Monday -Friday
Be part of a highly skilled data/coding team that administrates the clinical documents (patient discharge summaries, consultant clinic letters etc), such that our clinicians only see items they need to action and the rest is on the patients record coded and ready for their next consultation.

You will have the opportunity to develop/continue to develop your knowledge of medical terminology and clinical coding process, with on-the-job and external training support.
Main duties of the job
As part of a team you will review incoming alerts, patient correspondence etc scan and code documents into the clinical system, enter coded information accurately and consistently and forward for actioning as per the protocol.
About us
At Cowes Medical Centre, we are a multi-disciplinary team of 60+ with a breadth of skills and specialisms including GPs, ANPs, MSK, MHP, paramedics, dietician, pharmacy technician, wellbeing coaches and social prescriber.
We have a purpose-built building, with great facilities including a dedicated minor ops room, treatment room, phlebotomy suite, training facilities, and parking.

Job responsibilities
The main responsibility of the role is to administrate the clinical paperwork workflow (patient discharge summaries, consultant clinic letters etc).
Such that the GPs only see items they need to action and the rest is on the patients record ready for their next interaction.
This involves following a protocol so that the process is safe and effective.
To thrive in this role, you will enjoy lots of data entry and analysis to understand the implications of what you are coding, filing or forwarding to colleagues and clinicians.
You will need to develop a broad understanding of General Practice, and a knowledge of medical terminology, coding and clinical coding process (with on-the-job training to develop clinical coding skills).
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
Scan and code letters and relevant correspondence into the Practice medical computer system, and forward to the appropriate person as per the protocol
Enter coded information accurately and consistently
Distribute electronic results to clinicians
Archive scanned paper documents
Return documents for transferred-out patients to the originator
File and retrieve medical records and paperwork
To observe complete confidentiality at all times.
To carry out any other duties as may reasonably be requested by your line manager, the GPs or Business/Practice Manager.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Minimum of English GCSE C or equivalent
Desirable
- Medical terminology training
- Evidence of read code training
- Touch typing
- Word processing qualification
Experience
Essential
- 12 months+ data entry/data administration experience
Desirable
- Experience in scanning, clinical coding, or summarising
- Experience within Primary Care
- Previous knowledge of SystmOne
- Knowledge of anatomical terms
