    Job summary

    We are looking for an assistant director to join our high performing development and employment team. You will have specific responsibility to lead DoOD, building on the strong foundations in place to ensure DoOD continues to provide leading organisational development support to help employers meet current challenges and adapt to future needs.

    Main duties of the job

    As an Assistant Directo in the DoOD team you will:

  • engage with OD professionals to build and deliver the programme content as well as reach out globally to bring the latest thinking and evidence to provoke and stimulate ideas to be used in the NHS.
  • provide support to NHS OD professionals across England to help them develop their practice, promote good employment practice and in turn make a difference to the patients our employers serve.
  • As a member of the development and employment senior team you will help to ensure the success of the whole directorate and that it remains a place where colleagues want to work.

    You will also work with peers and directors to ensure the offer NHS Employers provides to NHS organisations is relevant, timely and impactful.

    Job responsibilities

    This Assistant Director is (in conjunction with other senior team members) responsible for:

  • Leading the team in line with our values
  • Using knowledge and expertise to enhance the work of the team and wider organisation
  • the development and delivery of all elements of work within the areas of direct programme responsibility
  • developing, delivering and sustaining high quality resources and support to workforce leaders and OD practitioners in the NHS to improve patient care through effective, evidence based practice.
  • They will:
  • lead and deliver DoOD for the NHS :to support the current and future needs of the profession and employers
  • ensure OD principles and practice are incorporated within the wider workforce experience and supply offer provided to employers
  • Support workforce leaders to embed leading OD practice in their organisations
  • Work closely with the team at NHS England to ensure that the OD programme complements and enhances the HR/OD professional development offer led by NHS England.
  • Ensure the OD offer is evaluated and demonstrates impact
  • The postholder will be a member of the NHS Employers Leadership Team, a group of senior colleagues who work together to support NHS Employers Directors and ensuring we achieve the organisations goals. Person Specification

    Experience

    Essential

  • Experience of leading programmes of work to support others to deliver organisational development, change and improvement in the NHS
  • Senior OD practitioner with knowledge of OD theory and practice; experience of applying this is in a real world setting
  • Experience of building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external and working in partnership in a complex and political environment
  • Experience of representing an organisation or members views to policy makers and adjusting approaches accordingly
  • Skilled in developing and delivering programmes of work to support the professional development of others
  • Demonstrable communication skills, including written and oral, with the ability to generate confidence with wide range of stakeholders
  • Influencing and negotiating skills along with listening, engagement and facilitation skills
  • Ability to prioritise and manage conflicting priorities
  • Experience and leadership and management skills to manage people and teams effectively with governance and budget management experience
