Job summary:

The Trauma and Orthopaedic Department at UHB Trust has undergone a rapid recent expansion of staff and service provision, along with enhancement of its role as well as regional and national profile.

There is a thriving programme of quality improvement. It is rapidly becoming one of the most exciting places in the UK to practice orthopaedic surgery.

We are looking to appoint a consultant to our innovative and ambitious Orthopaedic department which is expanding both clinically and academically in terms of number of consultants, workload and increasing sub-specialisation.

This purpose of this appointment is to increase the existing level of elective and trauma surgery within the department.

We are looking for highly committed and enthusiastic individuals who can integrate fully into the department which has remained a cohesive, well balanced and immensely friendly department in which to work.

Consultant monthly department meetings are held to address management and departmental issues and there are also regular clinical governance and QIPS meetings to address specific issues and identify actions to move the service forward.

The department provides teaching and research commitments associated with the University of Birmingham as well as the Birmingham and Warwickshire Orthopaedic Training Programmes.

Main duties, tasks & skills required:

The post advertised is for a substantive post as Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics with subspecialty interest in Upper Limb surgery.

This appointment aims to add to a dynamic and progressive Upper Limb team within the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful applicant will need to provide high quality Upper Limb subspecialty care in an elective and trauma setting.

The posts will support the department's needs as well as capabilities within the full range of general Trauma & Orthopaedic on-call work, including outside referrals and in-house emergencies.

The trust is one of the busiest elective centres in England and delivers services across multiple sites, so the applicant will be expected to work on different sites as part of their normal job plan.
