HR Policy Support - London, United Kingdom - Akton Recruitment
Description
HR Policy Support
£350/Day
Initial 6-Month Contract
Location:
Southwark, London
Akton Resourcing are looking for an experienced HR Policy support person to lead and complete the delivery of the following three policy projects:
Hybrid working
We do not have a hybrid working policy of any description and have drawn on our flexible working policy, drafted in 2009, to support changes to working practice in recent years.
In this post-Covid world of working, we are seeking to develop a new policy and guidance which will strike the right balance between workforce aspirations and the needs of the business.
We recognise there may be different drivers for particular departments which means one size won't fit all, so our starting point needs to be focused on service needs, reasonable, commercially viable, and grounded in trust to enable the best performance, engagement and commitment from our workers.
In developing this policy, it will be necessary to explore a range of options and assess competing views about the council's policy position.
Recruitment
As part of our Southwark Stands Together programme, we have committed to developing a new recruitment policy and guidance.
While the primary focus will be on embedding inclusive recruitment practice into our approach, this is an opportunity to take stock of all aspects of our recruitment policy and practice.
As part of this work, you can expect to:- review the way we currently practice positive action across the council and provide guidance to all participating in our processes (including stakeholder panels and feasibility of tie-breaker scenarios)
- explore how our recruitment practices sit with other relevant interrelated policies, such as organisational change and secondment principles
Vetting and compliance checks
Closely associated with the review of recruitment, you will consider our existing policy and approach to vetting and compliance checks, including whether they are compliant with all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements and the development of a detailed action plan to deliver any necessary improvements.
Engagement and Consultation
You will need to consult with the following:
- our HR&OD community
- Project officers, champions and allies across the council with Equality, Diversity, Inclusion & Antiracism as part of their remit
- Managers and senior leaders
You will be responsible for:
- the project management of this work - developing plans and proposals, benchmarking, conducting equality impact analyses (EIA), and shaping governance and reporting arrangements
- fully delivering and rolling out each policy - directly engaging with line managers and stakeholders, negotiating with TU representatives where appropriate
- working with corporate communications, following brand style and taking into account our hard-to-reach areas
- If there is additional scope during the project period, help support the HR Policy + Projects Team progress any other policy developments in line with our HR Policy and Guidance work programme.
Ideal experience, skills and background
- Extensive experience of writing and implementing policies, having worked with TU representatives and other stakeholders in different sectors, including public/3rd sector
- Proven ability to write in plain English to a wide range of audiences, pitched to appropriate tone and style for Southwark Council
- Strong project management and data analytical skills
- Selfsufficient, able to manage own portfolio and ability to deliver high quality suitable policies and guidance without intensive handson supervision
- Sufficiently updated in employment legislation, strong understanding of equality, diversity inclusion and antiracism, and developments in HR/industry practice
