    The Role
    The Rail Traffic Management (RTM) Controller is responsible for managing and controlling train movements, ensuring that they are running on time and safely. This involves operating signals and points to direct rail traffic, coordinating with other staff to manage any disruptions, and monitoring the overall operation of two tunnels - for freight trains, Eurotunnel shuttles and Passenger High Speed trains passing through them - as well as the terminals for shuttles.

    Principal Accountabilities, Qualifications and Experience

  • Acts remotely from the Railway Control Centre (RCC) on the railway signalling system to enable all train movements on the concession.
  • Manages delays and changes of platform to avoid loading/unloading conflicts.
  • Uses the railway signalling to carry out and maintain remote protections for track and catenary works.
  • Applies working instructions to work safely and methodically.
  • Keeps an accurate logbook on the status of the rail traffic they manage.
  • Carries out, at the request of the operation manager or the supervisor, any task compatible with the role or which is necessary for the operation of the RCC.
  • Educated to A-Level standard or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a Railway and/or Control Centre environment would be beneficial.
  • Fluent English and the ability to communicate in French to an intermediate level (B2 or above) is essential.
  • A valid Driving Licence and Passport are essential to facilitate reaching place of work in either UK or France (at least 20% of shifts will be planned in the staff member's country of residence).
  • What to Expect

    Recruitment Process:

    Given the nature of this role the process will include an initial French language competency test (an informal conversation via Teams), a first stage interview, Psychometric (Safety Competency) Testing at an site, and a visit to one of our Railway Control Centres (RCC's) either in the UK or France.

    In addition successful candidates will need to pass the safety critical medical standard required for this role.
