    PRE-REQUISITE/QUALIFICATION:

  • High School Diploma (U.S.)/ Proof of Completion of Formal Education or Relevant Craft Certificate (where applicable)
  • Successful Military Discharge – Preferred for U.S.
  • Graduate of Trade School or University where knowledge and training acquired are applicable to job requirements – Preferred
  • Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates
  • Knowledge of all technical standards required for the safe operation of the drilling equipment
  • Norway Specific: Must hold qualifications in accordance with relevant authority requirements and the requirements of the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSAN ref. Activities Regulations).

  • OPERATIONAL DISCIPLINE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Understanding and perform the roles and responsibilities as assigned at the pre-job meeting.
  • Understanding the hazards associated with the task.
  • Understanding and effectively implementing the control measures required to mitigate identified hazards.

  • Recognize at risk behavior or conditions during tasks and call 'Time out for Safety' when unsure, or when the job does not go as planned.
  • Participate in After Action Reviews to feedback lessons learned from performing the task.

  • DUTIES:

    The underlying expectation is that all duties are carried out in compliance with the Company Operational Discipline expectations and HSE requirements. When considering assignment of duties for the Floorhand, the Supervisor and the Floorhand will apply the rules of task planning (CAKES) to determine if the assigned role is appropriate. This means confirming that the individuals involved have the knowledge, skills, and experience to carry out the task, and the task plan complies with policy before they are authorized to proceed.

    GENERAL DUTIES:

    Operations/Maintenance:

  • Operate tongs, wrenches and other equipment required for making up or breaking out tubular; perform other tasks necessary to drill a well.
  • Use manual and automated means to move, position, lift, pull, push, remove, and install tubular and other equipment as needed to perform the operation.
  • Manually set and remove slips from the rotary bore and around tubular as required.
  • Wash down rig floor areas using high-pressure water, steam, air, solvents, and cleaning chemicals as required.
  • Actively participate in pre-tour meeting with the drilling crew for all non-routine drilling operations and safety matters.
  • Ensure that all loads leaving the rig floor with the crane are slung properly and have tag lines attached.
  • Signal Crane Operator in bringing equipment to and from the rig floor in a safe and effective manner.
  • Grease, lubricate, and perform minor repairs to rig floor equipment and inspect machinery that is directly related to the drilling operation.
  • Change tong and slip dies using hand tools and personal protective equipment and ensure that tools and equipment are in safe operating condition.
  • Clean and service drilling subs and equipment before removing from rig floor.
  • Carry out regular painting to maintain rig floor equipment; prepare metal surface for paint using scrapers, portable air operated tools, wire brushes, etc.
  • Assist in maintaining the shale shakers in optimum operating condition and perform any required maintenance or minor repairs.
  • Perform daily inspection and preventive maintenance on derrick structure while using safe operating procedures and proper personal protective equipment.
  • Inspect all safety equipment before going up to and in the derrick prior to usage.
  • Spotter for operation of finger latches in the derrick during tripping operations (i.e. pulling out of hole and running in hole).
  • Assist the Derrickhand in mud mixing operations and in checking the properties of drilling fluid.
  • Assist with deck operations when required.
  • Assist in the running and retrieval of Blow Out Preventer (BOP) and auxiliary equipment.
  • Relieve for shale shaker duty and derrick spotter duty if required.
