Band 3 point 6 actual salary £23,893 (dependent on experience)

Hours of work - Split Shift. 36.25hrs per week

6.45am am & 1.45pm - 5.45pm Mon - Fri (timings open to negotiation)

Due to a vacancy, the Governors seek to appoint a reliable and enthusiastic Caretaker to join our friendly team.

We wish to appoint a suitably experienced person to ensure that all school facilities are in an excellent and safe condition with the highest possible standards of cleanliness.

The governors will be seeking the following skills/personal qualities:

  • Enthusiasm, self-motivation and the ability to take the initiative to deal with issues as they arise.
  • Practical skills with the ability to carry out maintenance tasks and a pride in both their own work and the school site (desirable experience of plumbing, electrical works and grounds maintenance)
  • Good people skills with adults and children and able to communicate clearly with and relate positively to all members of the school;
  • Ability to work independently and unsupervised.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team of dedicated cleaning staff.
  • Ability to plan and ensure the completion of regular cleaning/maintenance schedules.
  • Ability to keep clear and accurate records of regular maintenance.
  • Ability to have some flexibility in working hours for occasional events.
  • Ability to work to tight timescales is essential.
  • Is a good team player.

Main Duties include:

  • To act as key holder and respond to callouts as necessary.
  • To clean areas of the school on a daily basis i.e. school hall, offices, toilets etc
  • To ensure appropriate use of premises and resources by occupants of the building.
  • To conduct weekly fire alarm, water checks and safety equipment checks reporting any faults and taking all sensible precautions against risk of fire.
  • To check all security, alarm and surveillance equipment, resetting alarms as determined by the Headteacher and reporting faults.
  • To prepare, supervise and contribute to the annual cleaning programme, to cover the whole of the school and its contents.
  • To ensure that all areas within the site boundary, i.e. playgrounds, toilets, paths, car parks, field areas etc. are kept clean, tidy and free from rubbish and litter, ensuring the school premises/buildings are presented in the best possible manner to the community.
  • To ensure safe disposal of rubbish and waste material.
  • Make sure the gates are opened and locked at appropriate times.
  • Check all playgrounds each morning for litter e.g. glass bottles etc.
  • Check that paper towels/soap/toilet rolls are replenished daily.
  • To prepare and tidy rooms/hall which are used for after school hours.
  • Portering duties, including the movement of stock orders, equipment and furniture around the building.
  • Order stock as required, for caretaking, cleaning and hygiene supplies.
  • Boiler room organisation (to be kept clean and wellordered at all times).
  • Windows throughout the building to be kept clean.
  • All toilets to be checked frequently and cleaned/replenished.
  • To provide access to the building in the event of snow, ice and minor flooding or similar emergency situations.
  • Caretaker's room to be kept clean and tidy.
