What you'll be doing


In this role, you will be responsible for assisting the Technical Operations Manager in managing a professional and qualified team of staff to ensure our key customers are provided with support and specialist technical knowledge and understanding of NHBC Standards and Building Regulations.

You will be working with a range of multi-disciplinary team professionals qualified in the areas of Engineering, Project management, and Surveying and in a position to assist and deputise as and when required.


With your experience, you will take responsibility for a range of large to small residential developments and associated non-residential building types typically being over 11 meters in height.

Meticulous coordination of building control inspections, issuing Final Certificates, site and type approvals, and resolving problems relating to Initial notice/Final certification would be familiar.


Using best practice and your building surveying experience you will be responsible for surveying and assessing buildings and proposals for suitability for Buildmark Conversions cover, including provisions of advice to meet the regulation standards and manage the preparation of reports and offers/ refusal of insurance cover with effective communication across the business.


This role requires strong negotiating skills to work with our existing builders, new customers, and their professional advisors, from initial design to the completion phase to ensure proposals are satisfactory in relation to building control and warranty in accordance with the relevant NHBC regulation and standards.

You will have strong communication and leadership skills to support inspection staff with provisions of expert advice, inspections of high-risk/ complex elements or features of building work with the ability to challenge and identify key stages of work in the process of review with the ability to build professional relationships with our customers and builders.


What we are looking for:


  • Extensive experience in the construction industry with relevant experience in Building Control.
  • Extensive experience of plan appraisal of residential developments and associated nonresidential uses.
  • Proven ability to make pragmatic and value decisions on compliance with Building Regulations and NHBC Standards.
  • I.T. literate with the ability to use a range of software programs.
  • Experience in training and mentoring
  • Demonstrable leadership skills
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written with appropriate interpersonal and presentational skills.
  • Able to work with a minimum of supervision in line with established policies and procedures.

Education and Qualifications


You should hold Chartered membership of a professional body such as RICS, CABE, CIOB or a similar professional qualification relating to Building Surveying.

A relevant accredited degree in Surveying would be an advantage.
