Role Dimensions:


  • Role reports to the Head of Suspension.
  • The role is office based at MTC (or periods of WFH as agreed with your manager in line with company policy) with occasional travel as required
  • Contracted hours plus additional flexibility in working hours outside core hours which may include periods of time in evenings or at weekend to cover requirements of the business in order to complete tasks to critical deadlines and also to cover occasional design support for events.

Principal Accountabilities:


  • Plans and leads the development of solutions across the technical programme for Suspension design, supporting the definition of requirements and specifications to meet the car programme.
  • Recognised as expert in Suspension design within the organisation and is a natural point of contact for all technical groups and race engineering.
  • Provides high level technical input and direction to the decisionmaking process across a wide range of projects within Suspension design from conceptual phase onwards.
  • Defining the overall (Level 2) and detailed (Level 3) specifications for the suspension.
  • Good knowledge of the FIA technical and sporting rules to ensure all parts adhere to legality requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:


  • Experienced F1 engineer with wellrounded knowledge of the car, its operational environment and its systems, with expert knowledge in the design of suspension layouts and componentry.
  • Experience of leading and managing challenging engineering projects.
  • Well organised and able to clearly prioritise and distribute tasks to ensure the team hit agreed deadlines.
  • Track record in delivery of technically innovative and reliable design solutions.
  • Experience of working closely with, and liaising between, multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Good grasp of latest technologies and innovations relevant to the discipline.
  • Sound appreciation of trackside requirements.
  • Able to use CAD packages and Kinematic models.

McLaren Racing is based at the iconic McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) near Woking.
